The first thing I would ask the vendor is why is it a cat C or D. If its flood damage don't buy it.

CAT D is just an un economical repair so the could of been keyed all round and written off because the respray cost more than replacing the car. So you need to ask what damage actually has been done and were on the car? alot of people take photos to show the damage and the repairs also ask where it has been repaired will give you an idea of the standards of the repairs.

CAT C is basically similar to a CAT D just slightly more damage yet i think you need is it a Vin check to put it back on the road where as CAT D you dnt?

as above dnt touch it if its flood damage
if it has been stolen and recoverd make sure the locks have been changed by a respected specialist or garage

CAT D / CAT C - are normally around 35-40% lower than standard market value so pluck another one of autotrader same miles same spec etc and knock 35% off it and u should be around the proper figure to pay.

Its rear damage the front is perfect, but the can tell the rear bumper don't line up perfectly. If 8 don't get on with it i will just sell it on.

Thanks for the information jimbo.

Do all your usually checks

HPI, Slam panels, boot floor, under rear seats, see if the dash is perfectly fitted still, look for parts out of the norm on that model eg. steering wheel, seats any other places were air bags are housed
if your mechanically mided do the normal checks if your not take someone who is £50 to pay your local mechanic is nothing compared to overlooking a big fault.

CAT D and CAT C cars are alot harder to sell than normal cars due to people not knowing alot about them the word "write off" tends to scare most people off and were its only a 1.2 its not really a car lovers car so be careful as you might not be able to shift it quickly afterwards. If you buy, buy it to keep mate

I used to be the person who wrote them off before i went back to university to do Mech Eng mate. Its abit of a minefield some Write offs in the real world should never be written off but theres so much crap that gets charged to insurance companys there happier to write off and get the claim payed out as quickly as possiable to avoid all hidden costs of claims.

So there are bargin CAT Ds and there are Dnt touch with a barge pole CAT Ds

If its rear end damage check.

Open boot, lift up the rear carpet look all around the wheel well and floor for creasing and signs of repair
Look under the car to c if the wheel well has been welded or repaired
check the boot opens smoothly along the top and does not catch the roof
check under the rear Bumper to c if the impact zone has been correctly repaired
stand behind the car and look along the door line for signs of gaps or jiggin

about all i can think of

No worries pal good luck with what ever u decide to do
