are you talking mk2 phase 1 or mk2 phase 2?

The ph2 bhp figures are above.

The ph1 bhp figures are:
1.4 8v - 75bhp
1.6 8v - 90bhp

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
i knew id get a response like that.

honestly i doubt theres a huge amount of difference, OBVIOUSLY the 1.6 is faster its also harder to get hold of and more expensive to run.

so its up to you really.

personally i think the 1.4 is a big enough step up from a 12 or 1.0.
mine did about 44mpg when i bought it. down to about 32mpg now 100k later

  ST on the way...
Get a DCi100 instead, get a Pmurray remap and your looking at the good side of 120bhp and more torque than a 182 :D

...and 60mpg!!! ;)

  None
Get a 1.4 16v as cheaper tax and insurance and just tune it to 110bhp and your there!! - they're basically the same engines anyway

so theres not alot difference than apart from 10bhp more. the diesel sounds a good idea :D never thought about that.

Nope, only 10bhp difference inbetween, and the steering ratio in the 1.6 is the same at the 172/182's.

ah well looks like the best bets a 1.4 or some dci power than lol. think ill get a lil banger for a few months, save up and hopfuly be driving a new clio again, wooo :approve:

1.6 has a nice lower end pull IMO. The 1.6 top end power isn't as noticable IMo untill you get the speeds up a bit.

Yeah, it does have a nice bottom end pull and TBH I found it good in all gears :)

1.6 8v - 90bhp

The mk2ph1 had both the old 8v as above and the new 16v engines the ph2 had. The 1.4 and 1.6 engines look very similar and share many parts.

..and a dead gearbox. Can't handle the torque from what i've read.

Yeah your right, JC5 could just about manage a 1.6/1.8 Petrol Laguna (Imagine how these are driven, people aged 40/50etc)

Al whatever you do don't get the 100 you'll get pissed off with the gearbox. Too long ratios

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
get the smaller engine one as both are slow and its better to save a few quid where you can... i wish i didn't waste so much money on my first car and insuring it... i wish i was out spending that money getting wasted meeting girls and using my rifle...

  Clio 1.6 16v Dynamique +
I'd go for the 1.6 too if I were you. I have one and I really don't understand why some people say they are slow as mine definitely isn't. As for insurance the 1.6 16V is a group 8 so shouldn't cripple you either. That's my opinion anyway. :)

  1.6 Focus, 1.6 122S
The 1.6 16v is grp 8 or 10 depending on hich you go for, its also in the higer tax band.

From a young persons point of view th extra 12bhp isn't worth it over the 1.4 16v at grp 5 and low tax band

  e60 M5 -172- dciheid
id get the dci as well, the 80 is a good performer for the money and returns respetable mpg.

a remap will help as well

You've got a fair few points there.
I don't know whether I'm lucky but im 19 with 1 NCB and pay sub £1000 on my 1.6, and it really does feel nippy. Would be my choice out the two, however it depends if you've got the cash to pay for the extra speed or would rather conserve pennies.

Cheers,

Pete.

well as it goes now im looking for a valver. if i gonna get a 1.4 or 1.6 i would have to get it on finance but now im just gonna do the smart thing and save a couple of grand for a valver :D

  BG182®
you could buy a mk2 ph1 for the price of a valver!!

tru but the valvers alot quicker less of course you ment the 172 but then that would f**k me up on insurance. the quotes im gettin for the valver are much better then the 172, speshly only being 18 and all
