Clio 1.6 weird engine noise

Hi,

I recently started hearing this grinding like noise from my engine bay, near the alternator. It starts getting louder as the car warms up and you don't hear it pretty much at all when the car is cold, only when it gets up to temp. Does anyone have an idea of what this could be? Thanks for any advice in advance. (The car is a Clio 1.6 16v, 2002)

Possibly a very rattily water pump. Could be wrong

Sounds like a healthy diesel.

Get a long screwdriver, put the handle against your ear and go round touching the tip on various parts until you find the one making the noise.

as above with the screw driver, check the AC compressor, water pump, alternator, idlers etc. No dephaser to worry about on a MK2 iirc?
