clio 1.8 16v

Hello everyone,

Its my first post as you can see! Looks like a excellent site :D

Im looking to buy my first clio its 1.8 16v, its on a 95 M plate, covered just under 100K, Has a full service history, bookfull of receipts etc etc, it had a cambelt change at 60k, When would the change be due?

Is there any major problems i should look out for? Reason i ask, i been reading and it says if you dont get a decent one it will cost a small fortune to repair!

Also the 3 dials in the centre console, oil etc, what should they read at roughly? and where should the tempaerature needle sit at once hot?

Sorry to ask so many question, just looking forward to buying one, and want to make sure i dont get a duff one!

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Matt

When warm 3.5 bar at 3k
1.5 bar at idle.
Best thing to check for rust and the electrics work you'll never know if you have a good one some just have more issues than others.
Next belt chnaged is at 120k.
Not sure what temsp but about 80~90 running round anything much over 110 though and I'd be worried.

i had a valver L plate

paid 1200 for but paid another grand in repairs in one year,

thats kinda right that you gotta have a good one.

Thanks for the advice, looks like i might be the proud owner of one by the weekend then, are they realy that much fun, inive only had a little drive of one so cant realy judge what it they are like, power wise it felt good, whats the handling like?

i bought a mint n-reg back at the start of the year, paid neally 2500 for it but it has been a diamond, nothing has gone on it apart from the clutch cable (look out for faulty pedals coz they f*ck the cables). look for the usual rust in the rear arches. mine has covered just over 100k (102k) and is just starting to rust, shes going to the body shop to have them de-rusted and sprayed plus a few other touch ups then im selling her due to the need 4a williams. lol. mine is lowered 60mm on a set of 16's and is amazing handling, just make sure u run a good set of tyres (toyos preferably) and no how to control over steer. gd luck m8.

Cambelt is due every 5 years or 72k miles, whichever is sooner. Although they can still fail earlier than that so if in doubt get it done. Usual renault specialists are the places to go and usually charge 137 quid plus VAT. If you join cliosport you should get a discount too. Water pump worth checking at same time.

I got mine done at 72K which was over 5 years and was lucky. Went to BB and they did a good job. GDI, Hill Power, Ktec, and all the others mentioned on here will do a good job I would have thought as they see Valvers all the time and can get them done in quickest way possible.

Worth checking electrics with it coming up to winter. Check and replace where necessary Spark plugs, HT leads, Dizzy Cap and Rotor arm. Check battery too. Fuel Filter can often be overlooked so make sure has been changed in last 36k or get done.
Oil and filter change every 6k. Clutches are heavy which is a problem as you get used to it and when they get heavier its hard to notice. Hill Power noticed mine and I got it replaced before it started to snap cables at my local mechanic who works for cash in hand.

Wheres about ru? i'm sure there would be numerous people on here who'd gladly go and look at a car with you as theres loads of knowledgable valver and williams owners on here

in birmingham mate, any help would be great, im obviously prepared to pay whoever for there time, tyre wise i work for goodyear so would probably put gsd3s on it, and i get them fairly cheap, anybody had any experience with them on a clio, i had them on a rover 220 coupe and they were superb.

The car i have got my eye on is a lads from work, recently had the clutch replaced, rust wise, very minor bubbling on the rear arches, not noticable unless shown realy , all the electrics work fine, tried them all ready, it comes with a folder full of receipts, past mot's, full service history.

The oil looks good, no sludge around the cap etc, found out it also has a full de-cat exhaust system, a janspeed one i think, and a k&n panel filter.

he is looking for 1100 quid, sound a fair buy? he was going to advertise it for 1300, but has just bought a celica gt4, so the cars no longer required, hence why he is selling it.

Might even be able to get a bit more off than that due to the rear arches. The rusty area needs to be cut out and new metal welded in etc, otherwise the rust will come back.

Once it starts going a little, it will get very bad very quickly. Mine had a little spot of rust on about 6 months ago and they look awful now. Mine will be getting done with a full re-spray next year, would like them to get done sooner, but need to pay for my Williams engine conversion.

tried knocking him down today, with the excuse of the rear arches slightly bubbling! Waste of time, i thought he was gonna laugh at me!Shall i still go for it?, i asked him today about an induction kit for it, he said there isnt much point of them on the 16v as they knock low down torque off them, is this the case, or can anyone reccomend a good suited induction kit for them? and where to get one from?
