Clio 172 buyers guide

Hi, My girlfriend is looking at buying a Clio 172. I was wondering if anyone can provide information on what to look out for when buying e.g. any common problems and faults with the 172.

Hi. welcome to the club! Which mark is she looking to buy? MK1 172, or Mk2?

If a ph1 then check the bonnet catch!! Other than that there are no real issues with them. Expect them to rattle and squeek a bit. Make sure your HPI it and check the service history etc to make sure the oil has been changed regularly and the cam belt has been done (if needed)

Cambelt due to age, and the exhaust are made from drinking straws so give that a good look.

Cheers for the info. She is looking to spend around 4 - 5 grand so 182 will prob be a bit out of her price range. Lookin at both the mk1 and mk2's.

Don't lie, they aren't that good. :rasp:

It'll squeak and rattle like mad, check all the suspension shocks/springs/strut mounts etc. Make sure cambelt has been changed (if more than 5 years old).

Try and get one with a good cond. steering wheel and seats.

See if you can stretch to the Mk2 or 182..much better looking than the Phase 1 172 IMO
