clio 172 centre exhaust

Hi all, The centre pipe on my exhaust has split which is the part between the cat and the back box. I have phoned all the local exhaust centres and they cannot get one so im guessing its dealer part only?? Anyway I phoned Renault up and they qouted me £175 as it comes with the back box!! Does this sound right? I cant understand why you have to buy the backbox aswell! My car has had a magnex back box fitted since I bought it so ive never seen the standrad system and the only reason I can think of is that the standard back box is part of the centre pipe and cannot be removed unless cut off? is this right????? Thanks

There are two parts of the exhaust from the cat back,. It sounds like they are trying to sell you the rear part when you need the centre section. They may have got confused if you were explaining over the phone.

i bought a centre section from ebay - £45 i recall.

somewhere in birmingham i think. this was for a 2000 X 172

that's the wrong price, and wrong info, the centre section comes on its own, the back box comes on its own, they were only ever in 1 piece when they were new on the car from factory

172 centre section = 8200332139 £148.21+vat
172 back box = 6000073740 £103.38+vat
clamp = 8200661296 £19.11+vat

= grand total of £311.31

and it WILL s**t itself, rust to bits and fall off within 12months BE WARNED

if you're keeping your existing backbok you HAVE TO buy the clamp also, so with centre section and clamp = £192.42 inc vat plus labour (they have to cut your existing system to fit a new centre section, hence the clamp)

EDIT - you have a magnex back box, shouldn't need the clamp then

Might be worth getting a stainless centre section made up for the price a genuine parts going to cost.

I ended up going the stainless route, got it done for £160 and its a mint job! Thanks for your help ppl!
