Clio 172 Cup
Hi All,
I'm new on the forum as I've just bought a 172 Cup so this is my first post. Unfortunately the reason I'm posting is because it's now in need of a new engine. I bought it, drove it back home around 90 mins away, took it out for a spin once home, then it cut out. I tried a few things, but in the end fearing the worse I got it over to the Renault specialist in Rugby. On inspection they found one of the valves had come away and the valve seat had been chewed up through the motor, damaging 3 pistons to the extent you could see chunks out of them, scoring the bores and making a general mess. I went to see it with the head off and you could see swarf over the pistons, not good considering I'd literally had the car 2hrs before it happened so not quite the dream start. Anyway for you other Clio owners apparently this is quite rare, so don't worry, I think I can only put it down to bad luck.
This is the part where I'm after some advice. Do I......
A. Try to find a new motor. Does anyone know of one around? Mileage was 89k so I'd like to get something without too much more than that.
B. Sell as a roller. Anyone on here interested in it?
C. Strip it a sell off bits
It's got a few nice bits, like stainless stealth exhaust, refurbished turini wheels with good tyres, mono steering wheel, shocks are fairly new with eibach springs, decent interior etc...
What would people do?
I like the car and would like it kept on the road either with me or someone else, so don't really want to do C., but that choice might make the most financial sense at this point.
Advice welcome
Thanks
Andy
