clio 172 fires mk 2

Just reading the article regarding the 172 mk2 fires.

does anyone think we 172 owners should contact renault with the concerns.

just seen the pics of the owners cars on here and its worrying.

we have children sleeping in the room above the garage and if the car caught fire what chance would the kids have ?

moving them to another room tomorrow - better safe than sorry even if im been over cautious.

shocked to read about mooses car catching fire at 1.30am - really feel for him.

anyone else think we should contact our dealers to raise this concern ?

any sensible opinions appreciated.

cheers

Hi 172

Totally agree with you. I am trying to re-claim the money I will lose but the picture is really much bigger! I have a girlfriend who is due in 4 weeks and just imagine if the house had gone up etc....

I am constantly on the phone to Renault and others at the moment trying to get something sorted so if you have any ideas give me a PM and we can start to push them a bit!

Maybe we should stand up and be counted.
Its not a rare occurence now really is it? Yours, Hippys and at least 1 other cup going up in flames.

I think the best bet is to start with the smaller motoring press, they will be more interested in your/our problem. People like topgear etc must recieve 1000s of emails etc a week. IM NOT SAYIN DONT CONTACT THESE but just remember the smaller publications like autoexpress etc.

silver is right - this way you can create a "snowball " effect and it will make the bigger press publications take it on.

we have two children sleeping above the garages and we dont use the 172 a lot so if it caught fire it would be too late for our babies.

letter off to renault in the morning and a phone call.

will update on here when we learn more.

  Cup 172

It needs every last 172/CUP/182 etc. owner to send a letter to Renault, enclosing pictures of this car of Mooses and demanding they do something about it and threatening to never buy a Renault again! Coupled with some huge blown up photos to be positioned outside the Reno delaership which sold this car, and maybe a few leaflets distributed around the Reno stand at the Motorshow. Hang On! Im going tomorrow. Maybe Ill print some off and leave them in the 182 on the stand!

Reno. What a bunch of TW4ATS!

Set up a funny ebay auction for the burnt out car with pictures - those things get millions of hits - everyone heard of the guy wearing the wedding dress or the guy selling he cheating girlfriends knickers.

there is enough clio drivers on here to make a difference, if they decide to ignore this problem (probably daft enough) i suggest we all get together for a rally or march, block all entraces to the renault dealerships put customers off etc...

people power!!

It looks like mentioning Cliosport.net to them has helped this morning as they are taking it more seriously all of a sudden.

You cant fight big companies with lawyers because they have deeper pockets so you have to more clever. I know Im a Yorkshireman but the money is not the main point (hard to believe I know)!! Like 172Fast said I have my first little one on the way and I was stood in the front room of my house, 40 yards from where the car was on fire, wondering if the petrol tank was going to go! Iwouldnt mind if the car was old and smashed but it is 18 months old, bought from a Renault dealer, serviced by Renault not more than 1 month ago, and still has 18 months Renault warranty on it!!

We need to make Renault aware of the problem and stop it before someone gets hurt!!

we have written to renault today outlining this problem as what moose1978 says is very true.

if renault get enough of these letters then they will be forced to look into the potential problem before someone gets hurt. its not difficult for a company the size of renault to address this concern.

every 172 owner should write in or call to register the concern.

i mean its not like a faulty light bulb - this problem will kill someone.

  soon to be a 200

My car went in yesterday to my local renault dealer i told them and they are not concerned because they had not heard of it . Renault uk said they are unaware of the problem.ren uk said if enough people phone with a prob it will be investigated so get on the phone now with all your probs.
