Clio 172 loss of drive

  Clio 172 Cup
Hi one and all,

First time posting to this forum so apologies if the thread ends up in the wrong place. We bought our Clio 172 cup a couple of months ago and yesterday we took it for it's first track day. All was going well but then we broke something...

Basically it feels like a diff/gearbox issue in that the car can be in gear, clutch engaged and it doesn't move. We still get a speed reading which makes me think it's more like diff? no funny noises from the car and no explosion of oily bits on the track. Was hoping to get an understanding of what likely has gone wrong before shelling out for a new gearbox, being a cup it needs the JC5 129 (is my understanding) and these seem to be hens teeth on ebay!

Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks guys

Circlip will have popped out as above, happened to me at Croft. Fit a renfort plate instead of the circlip.

After my last experience id say its worth fitting one as a precaution, especially if the box has done a few miles. Mine popped out after riding a lhs kerb at Croft.

Thanks for the help guys, certainly seems like a plate is a good idea given the car will be seeing more track use.

Reading around it sounds like there could be a chance that the clip has fallen into the diff and could cause more damage. Other than draining the oil to look for metal is it just a case of suck it and see?

If you get the box out and send it to me, I can strip it, rebuild it and supply and fit the bolt in plate to stop the failure happening again. 👍🏻
