Hi Viceroy,
Thanks for the warm welcome. Based on your comments about this little motor, I am indeed looking forward to test driving the little sucker at lunchtime.
The performance of my 206 was good, but not without some work and lot of frustration, so I look forward to what the clio can do standard.
You mention the aftermarket exhaust. How does Renault feel about this in terms of warranty and does De-catting the clio void warranty and cause ecu faults (lights showing faults) etc ? Also, is there a significant performance improvement by removing the cat ? There was with the 206, but then I had this warning light glaring in my face every day....till I removed the bulb

I tried to post to your reply last night but my internet connection was playing up.
Anyway, as far as performance goes, the Clio 172 will slaughter the 206gti
as far as handling goes, again the Clio 172 will slaughter the 206
as far as quality goes, they are probably about the same
Roastie and Smiley mentioned most of the things which could go wrong with the car. the main ones being rattles at the front suspension, exhaust rattle (buzz) at either 4000rpm and/or 2500rpm, and the power steering.
My exhaust has just started rattling, its not serious but can drive you nuts and should be sorted out, either by Renault, or you could always get an aftermarket one
