Clio 172 mk II problems

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie to this forum as I am in effect crossing the floor from the Peugeot stable to Renault.

I was wondering if you could help me. I am at present looking to buy a 2002 Clio 172 mkII. Would it be possible to post any common problems you have had with the mkII model that were resolved under warranty so I can take this post to the dealer and get everything looked at before I take delivery of the vehicle.

Thanks it would be much appreciated.

Welcome 206gt-aiii

Glad to see you took smileysports advice and came to visit here from http://www.cartoday.comhttp://www.cartoday.com

I tried to post to your reply last night but my internet connection was playing up.

Anyway, as far as performance goes, the Clio 172 will slaughter the 206gti

as far as handling goes, again the Clio 172 will slaughter the 206

as far as quality goes, they are probably about the same

Roastie and Smiley mentioned most of the things which could go wrong with the car. the main ones being rattles at the front suspension, exhaust rattle (buzz) at either 4000rpm and/or 2500rpm, and the power steering.

My exhaust has just started rattling, its not serious but can drive you nuts and should be sorted out, either by Renault, or you could always get an aftermarket one

Hi Viceroy,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Based on your comments about this little motor, I am indeed looking forward to test driving the little sucker at lunchtime.

The performance of my 206 was good, but not without some work and lot of frustration, so I look forward to what the clio can do standard.

You mention the aftermarket exhaust. How does Renault feel about this in terms of warranty and does De-catting the clio void warranty and cause ecu faults (lights showing faults) etc ? Also, is there a significant performance improvement by removing the cat ? There was with the 206, but then I had this warning light glaring in my face every day....till I removed the bulb ;)

Renault in in this country dont seem to mind as far as suspension / exhaust mods go. I think its a case of which dealer you use. Always best to ask

Do a search on 172 and decat on the forums. Youll find plenty of information as far as performance goes.

I believe replacement filter, Chip and Zorst will get you to about 180bhp (youll also find plenty of info on here about that)

As far as comparison between 206 and 172 goes...ask smiley on cartoday, or Rhys on here as both have driven both the 206 and 172
