Clio 172 now or wait for 182?

Hi Guys,

Just had a quote back from Elephant. I can afford to Insure a 172 when Im 18. My question is do I wait until im 19 and get a 182 FF which is what I really want or just go for it and get a 172 this year?

If I got a clio 172, I'd have to sell my clio 1.2, I can remove all the mods bar the 172 bumper, do you think this would be the best thing to do? and then sell it as standard?

I was in a similar position and I just bought my 172 cup because I'm impatient and to be honest I'm glad I bought it. I really wanted a 182 but just couldn't afford it. I do think that ill end up getting a 182 but I'm perfectly happy with my 172
selling the car standard will be better as you'll get some money back for the mods and the car will also appeal to a wider audience therefore giving you a better chance at selling for the price you want

No climate, no xenons, cloth interior, no engine cover, no renaultsport door sill things, no auto lights, no auto wipers.

Think that about covers it. Can't say I've missed auto lights & wipers (had these in my 1.2). And just brought xenons and a 1*2 interior

Not for me, but then i'm positive insurance companies pull a figure out of a hat.

182 cup was about £600 cheaper than a 182. Might be because less you people have written them off due to them being in lesser numbers than normal 182's?

Is there that much difference between the 2? Only really wanted a 182 for the dual exhausts. does the 172 have cruise control do you know?

Personally, i would buy a 172 now, see how you like it, then buy a 182 if you really want next year.

ive had both, and in all honesty, theres not a huge difference for day to day driving.

the 182 does look nicer from the back though!

Nah! Because it's a cup it also comes with both 'cup' packs, obviously a 182 FF is the best option but personally what I paid for my cup in the condition/history etc not having the other little toys have never really bothered me.

Turns out when I googled clio 172 to use a reg plate for the quote I managed to pick a 1.4 172 Replica didnt I just clicked next next through the quote as its not for real and didnt really check just saw renault clio lol

f**k that! I set myself of a rule of no more than £2000 for second year insurance on a sport.

Onto my third year of insurance now (1 year ncb) and without the my accident in my first year it would have been £1100 fully comp.

Just be patient !

There aren't many 172's for sale these days. They all seem to have disappeared.
