Clio 172 orange ecu light

  Evo 6, UnoT,172,PGT
So just got back from looking at an 52 plate phase 172, the car has had an exhuast change, from front box backwards is that the CAT at the front of the car ie directly off the downpipe?

The car has the orange engine managment light on though, the owner states its due the new exhaust and lack of the lambda sensor in it.

Does this sound right?

Cheers.

Having no lambda sensor would indeed bring the light on.

Lambda sensors control the fueling system and having no bank 2 lambda sensor would mean the fueling is wrong.

Ultimately, the car would need mapped differently to make up for the lack of a second sensor.

Oh right so theres two lamda sensors in the standard exhaust system is that correct?

One of the manifold and the other further back in the system?

Ive heard that removing the 2nd the sensor shouldnt effect the car if its tied up out of the way, does this sound right.

I have no idea why the 2nd wasnt put back in though...

Yeh, pre-Cat and post-Cat.

Ok so the cat is the 1st box at the front is that correct?

The removal of the 2nd probe would put the light on as suggested but would it effect the cars running as it appears to run fine?

Will find the car runs just about the same but it will likely affect your MPG as it will more the likely be overfuelling due to reverting to the standard fuel mixture instead of adjusting it with the information it gets from the sensors.

Ok mate cheers, so best to put the prob back into the exhaust and plug it back in then?

I see the 2nd probs are roughly £30 to buy so not end of the world.

So a little more digging into this reveals that the 2nd lambda sensor after cat only flags up if the cat is failing so not needed ie this wont effect performance if this sensor is out can anyone confirm this please?
