Clio 172 turbo help please

Hello people, so me and my brother own a track day 172. its road legal but majority of its life is spent on a track. its more than capable and its amazing fun, I have just as much fun as the 50k gtr's that whizz past me but we keep thinking a little extra power would be nice. so I wanted to ask advice on here although I know it has been covered, and believe me I have used the search and google.

I keep seeing Espace 2.0t and Laguna 2.0t for spares and repairs on ebay, using the search I couldn't find anyone that were using these as a donor engine(everyone wants the megane lump) so I wondered if I was missing something? would they fit? realistically I would like 200bhp absolute maximum. to be honest id be happy with 185bhp but I would obviously get around 185lbft of torque too which would be awesome.

in theory could I drop the whole engine in and maybe tweak the actuator to run a little more psi, the Laguna I found was 170bhp so in my mind a little tweak on the boost could see 180bhp/180lbft torque.

and the other question is, and this is where I would get stuck, would I just plug the ecu in and it would work? I don't care if the dash doesn't work and that's easily sorted with a couple of gauges and a gps but am I asking for more trouble than its worth?

and before anyone says it I know its hardly worth it for that 10bhp, but you have no idea how happy that would make me. it would just be nice to nip around those cars that wont move over cos our car looks like its worth less than the shirt they are wearing.

all help is welcomed!

It's nowhere near as straight forward as you would hope.

The stock Clio ecu won't run a turbo.
The jc5 gearbox won't bolt to the f4r block and would wreck it even if it did.
Renaults with f4rt lumps fitted have the brake MC and servo on the passenger side. In a Clio it's on the drivers side so the downpipe hits it.
If you use the nd0 box you'll need custom drive shafts and mounts.

Personally I would give it a miss, for the effort of fitting it I'd personally be looking at better engines from other manufacturer's.

That is interesting. Do you have any more details of this?
Also, as it would be a low blow unit plus not running much boost could you do without an intercooler or is it essential?
ive seen that JMS inlet for sale and part of me thinks all this playing around with a turbo the JMS would be just as good and probably cheaper in the long run.

He said it's 95% complete, I'm sure if a few people expressed an interest it would encourage him to finish it..

The ecu is the least of your problems though. The mechanicals make the 200bhp laguna engine a lot of work for little gain.

Might as well get the clio engine turbod for the effort/ money it would cost, you could have 280bhp for less than 4k, with adaptronic ecu, belts, meg pistons, helix paddle clutch the lot, all fitted.

Why bother doing it yourself?

P.S £2950 fitted for around 230-240bhp without meg pistons belts and clutch.

How much is it for just the parts? I would love to do something like this as a project just to be able to say I did it myself (obviously bar the mapping) and have the satisfaction. I have always paid someone else to do stuff on my cars and now I have the 172 as a track car/toy I could leave it in bits while doing something to it and not have to worry about getting to work etc plus is I balls it up a new engine isn't expensive lol Is there a guide on doing a conversion? (Purely for reading purposes as I'm in work bored lol)

Although for that price it does make you wonder, I've had the car a month and not even done a track day in it yet lol and I've got a shopping/to do list longer than my arm.

Stu.
