Clio 172 v civic Type-R

  FF 182, K5 GSX-R1000
Well 235 + 18% = 277fly!!!

235atw Certainly equals over 270fly anyway and can't believe thats possible but hey.

Its just not that vague........ It is not quite as sharp as the clio, but vague is a bit of an overstatement.

hmmm, your right. must have been at the fly then.... was a while ago now, at least 18 months ago! i definately remember a figure of 235bhp though

good gains though from such a small number of mods, probably depends on the RR you use as well..........

the type r has the ability top end speed wise and it handles better. There's no question.

Having owned both... the Type-R does not handle better...

Performance wise, very close up to a tonne, then the CTR has the edge.

The CTR definitley lacks some torque as you up hill 'action' proves.

Beg to differ... nowt wrong with the torque on my old CTR >>>

By lowering slightly and altering the suspension geometry (castor & camber), which is not difficult or expensive...

Well will take your word for it cos know your very informed......:)

It just feels short on torque and is very gear sensitive compared to other cars I have owned. Only had mine 3 days so is new to me and still learning how to extract the best out of it.

It's just the way the power is delivered, the torque is there, but they can feel a little flat when off VTEC due to them being so strong when the VTEC is engaged.

yeah.... mine has had the ECU re-flashed (think its correct) so that the VTEC kicks in earlier..

Like I say am still learning about it.... although I cant praise it enough....

Forgot you had had a CTR was after the cup wasnt it??

Yeah had the CTR after the Cup, was fed up with it being in the garage every few weeks, bought from new, but after 9 months I'd had enough. :dapprove:

Was your type r standard when producing that trq and 208hp?

No, at that time had a cat back zorst, although otherwise standard.

On another RR day when I had a BMC CDA air filter and earthing kit as well, it made 176bhp @ wheels, roughly 215bhp @ fly, much more of a VTEC kick with the BMC fitted.

Rich what are these eathing kits all about? Do they really work? Seem to be a lot of the VTEC boys using them might get one on my new car if it does something.

You must have a 1 in a million car then because 208hp with just an exhaust is good or you should take that rr result with a pinch of salt ;)

Jap cars have cr@p earthing systems, the kits seems to stabilise the system and make the engine run smoother and some say gain a couple of bhp as well... definately does something...

One example is that at idle, if you operated say an electric window, the revs would dip slightly and it would judder only for a second, but with the earthing kit it was ok.

My mate Paul does these kits cheap >>>

There are loads of CTR's that make that with just an exhaust, add a decent IK as well and your pushing out 215 hp.

You really think they all leave the factory with bang on 197bhp

There are always good/bad examples, mine was a quick car, it ran the 1/4 in 14.5secs @ 97mph with just the zorst, not stripped out.

What tools did you use to fit the induction kit, id say a rolling pin by looking at the state of the CAF ;) but seriously im no expert on cars so il take your word for it!

Was that cr@ppy aluminium ducting, needed to be squashed oval to fit where I wanted it to go... not pretty, but worked...

You have to use the good ship 172 not the cart Ali!;)

Is brands the only track in the uk you've not done 100 laps round?:clown:

Nah, i've only raced brands once...LOL, I've done a total of 18laps there.

Clutch went in qualifyin, Big end went in 1st race after starting 3rd last and in the 2nd race i was utter shite.

It's flat in 5th through the first corner at 107Mph, and i didn't realise that till 1/2 way through the race.

Finished 18th out of 47 so wasn't a bad effort...
