Hi, im new to the forum and im after some advice. I am looking to buy either a Silver or Black 172 just before xmas and am looking to spend about £8000 or possibly just over. Im looking for a car in immaculate condition so what sort of age and mileage do you think i will be looking at ??

I have heard a lot of good things about these cars, are they good cars to drive??

Do the interiors come in 1 colour or 2 and also whats your opinions on the clutch??

I think you should be able to get a 52 plate with about 15-20k for that or maybe even an 03 (Im sure people will rush to correct me though hehe).

Very happy with mine. Bought it about 3 months ago. mk2 02 silver 172, got it for £7750 only done 13k, but thats because my dad found it for me (hes in the motor trade!) I should think ull get a beauty with that budget but a bit higher on the milage side (i was lucky to get mine for that price).

Oh, and silvers the best!

i paid £8800 for mine 3 months ago it had 16000 miles on it on a 53 plate! after having owned a williams for the last 2 years i love the 172 to bits, clutch is so nice compared to the williams!!

Yep, the clutch is great compared to the willy. I love my car, wish i had more money to spend on it tho!

Thanks for the replys guys, im off on Holiday Wed for a week then as soon as i get back im gona start looking. Hopefully i will get a bargain before xmas then. I have seen a few on Autotrader. 2003 models with about 20k and they are up for just over £9000. Where do you think the best place is to pick up a bargain??

Are the interiors black or grey in the 172 ??

Bargains on here maybe? The interior is black half leather with a dark grey suede type material down the middle (cant remember the name for it without looking it up!, someone correct me).The seats are gorgeous.

Dash, carpet, etc, black. Do a search on 172 interiors (or similar).

Id look in the For Sale section here - better deals than Autotrader! The seats are grey - leather/alcantara, very nice.

Does the clutch on the 172 have a low or high bitting point?? I have heard that the clutches on the 172 can be really stiff! Is this true??

I dont have a problem with the clutch on mine. In fact I cant remember ever reading of any problems with the 172 clutch on here. The pedal on the older willims and valvers are hellishly firm tho! A real work out in stop start traffic.

There like all Clios you get used to it.

My clutch and accelerator are so light its like pressing on air compared to my old Pug which were REALLY stiff. I sometimes find it hard to balance or use smoothly theyre so delicate to balance.

Incidentally, I got my Silver 172 at the start of November - Standard, 52 plate, 20000 miles, tinted windows - £7800. Got it off a fellow ClioSport user through ebay.

Yep, Look for a Mk1 for around 6.5k then spend the rest on mods

I paid £7k for mine and was the best one i seen out of all of them. I paid a little to much but it had the receipt for everything that had been done to the car(An A4 folder full of them!) + I got a private plate thrown in which is £400 worth so done not to bad!!

I fancy a newer car as possible to be honest, i would like a car with warrenty even if theres only a year left on it. Has anybody seen any good mk2 172 sales about??

Is it straight forward to change the warrenty from one person to another if i was to buy a 2003 model for example??

All 172 prices seem to be quite low. Do a quick check on autorader or on here in the for sale section should bring up a good selection of cars.

The warently is based on the car not the owner. Anyone can take the car in for warently work.
