Clio 182 cambelt

  Clio 182 cup FF
Hi all,

I am just after some advice. I am in e process of buying an 05 plate Clio 182 cup wi 34k miles on the clock. As I'm aware the cambelt hasn't been changed. I am buying from a dealer who have said " it doesnt need changing ". I am concerned as I feel they are saying this because of the cost involved in changing it. Should I still purchase e vehicle ? Or insist that the belt is changed ?

Advice will be hugely appreciated.

You could be smart & ask the dealer to open the service book at the page for service intervals & it clearly states- not to exceed 5 years or 72000k whatever comes first-

However you can tell him to your blue in the face - he will still only sell it for X-

Make sure if you do buy it that you get the belts done not the dealer-

I am definitely going to mention it to them tomorrow. Hopefully, they will just do it. If however they refuse, have you any idea what price I'm looking at having it replaced myself ?

As Steve said, dont get them to do it, if he doesn't know/admit the belts are due/overdue then he wont pay to have it done right. Get it cheap enough to allow you to have it done at a specialist, or find another car

~ £500 for both kits there or thereabouts upwards of £650 if it needs a dephaser - Although you should hear the dephaser as the engine note sounds like a bag of spanners

Id be inclined to offer a lower price and go to a specialist like Fred, simply because dealers aren't renowned for giving a sh!t.
