Hi!

My first post on this forum..

I currently have a MG ZS 180 but it is costing way to much on fuel so need to 'downsize' to something more economical.. so the only car I can think of that looks good, goes fast and is economical is the Clio 182!

Obviously need to get the best so a cup it is, my question is what are these cars like for high mileage? Looking at a 90k BG clio at the moment with belts done, need this to last prob 2 years so 50k miles (yes I do lots of miles!!)

What do you guys think?

Welcome.

Get one with a good service history that's been looked after. Buy on condition. There's plenty on here over 100k.

But a 182 Cup is the worst 182, not the best.

182 cup is not the best. Its the worst. Poor interior, no xenons, no climate control, no rear headrests, crap steering wheel and only two colour choices.

You want a normal 182 with cup packs if you want 'the best'.

These engines (With proper servicing) will last a very long time. There's load on here with 130k plus. There's even a trophy with nearly 190k on it and its still going strong. The owner is a bit of a bender though.

My advice would be to buy a car on its current condition and its previous service record. Mileage isn't really an issue.

Hope that helps. (I love MG's!)

I've just bought a ph1 172 with 104k on the clock, full service history and loads of invoices for work done, I'm astounded by how well it goes!

  This one ^ (someday)
I wouldn't consider a 182 particularly economical, mine doesn't do much above 35mpg at 75mph. I know someone with a newer punto that does 45mpg!

As said thats nothing really, depends really on how the car has been treated over the course of the 90k and the condition its in now ;)

Mines done a few miles and is still going strong. Buy on condition and receipted service history. And if theres no receipt from a reputed specialist for the cambelt, make sure you budget to get it done when its due. Additional stuff will all become apparent with the use of the search function on here.

My 182 will soon be near the 100k mark and it's been great and the quickest looked at loads of low mileage examples and they were all dogs till my 90k one cropped up on the bay I would not change it for the world :)

My current 182 on 110k is much better than my previous one was on 46k... as said it's all about the condition and service history :)

  182 Trophy
145k here in a 182 FF.

Lapped up 170 miles of Silverstone GP on Sunday, as well as another 300+ travelling to and from, without an issue

04 'fullfat' (both cup packs) 86000 and runs like a dream, as said many times.. history and belts then not a problem :)

Welcome by the way

Not able to comment on higher mileage 182's, but I came from a ZS 180 to my Clio, and I get about 6-7mpg more driving the same route and the same style.(31-32mpg ish compared to 38-39mpg on the Clio). I suspect I may drive the Clio quicker as it feels better at speed.

Thanks for the responses.

Sorry I meant a 182 with Cup packs!

Yeah I have never got past 30mpg with my ZS I don't think, the highest I achieved was 28mpg. I do mainly motorway too at 50-60mph (m42 traffic..)!

From what I've seen I think I'll be able to hit 40mpg in a 182?

50 - 60 on the motorway should see 40mpg, maybe a little higher.
