clio 182 dephaser

Right, i know this is going to be a nasty job but i am trying to save spending £700 odd at ktec for them to do it.

Realistically how hard is this, and do you really need 'special' tools to lock the cams ect?

thanks,
Zak

I have got tools, just not the renault ones. surely if you can lock the cams another way it should be fine

If you have some tools that can lock the cams and pulleys in place while you remove the pulleys and the same for putting it all back together then that should be fine.

If you read the guide or renault pdf you'll see what you need to achieve. The pulleys are not locked to the cams with woodruff keys so everything needs to be held in place very accurately while you tighten it up.

yes, wish i had bought one with the work done to it :S. i will have to do it after my track day as i dont have the time or parts to do before :(

it makes more cost sense to do it myself, but it is the timing i am worried about knocking out

When you set it once, you check it then and reallign if needed.

I am in the middle of the whole cambelt stuff (got stuck at other parts, see my thread if interested) and from my point of view the cambelt setting itself is not a problem if you have the tools (strong ones, that dont bend when releasing pulleys).

More what i dont like about it is the lack of space, the bottom cambelt cover, globally the work around it is really time consuming. Thats why its not a cheap job by a specialist and i fully agree with that price.

I decided to do it myself because here are almost no RS Clios and so no specialists. And I have a lot of tools and space to do it.

Dan@SJM it is 600 at ktec ;). I know it is a pig to do that is why it costs so much. Just want to give it a go myself...

But k-tec will f**k it up lol. You buying the tools yourself and doing it has more chance over k-tec of getting it right;)

Fair enough mate. Might give it a go myself, probably easier to chuck it on my pit and take the engine out and do it that way :D

i got a pit, engine crane and a lot of tools, so i would have thought it would be easier than working off axle stands :D
