Clio 182 Help

Im after a 182 at the moment and found a nice one, 04 Reg, 23,000 miles in black. I called the garage its at and enquired about it, he said all the paperwork is there and the car is ready to drive away. I was quite impressed, however when I ran a HPI check the car showed as having the reg changed and stolen & recovered.

If there was a personal reg previously on the car, would that explain the reg change?

and can someone tell me about the stolen and recovered? what does this mean to me?

Thanks

stolen and recovered , as it says really .........someone nicked it and they found it later possibly thrashed to an inch of its life :S

as he says - i had my corsa stolen (best thing that could of happened :p) and it was recovered 3 days later - initial repairs were 4500 on interior and bodywork - then later went in for a new engine as they had managed to brake it in the 3 days they had it cost them a good few thousend aswell but was never registered as a stolen recovered.

more than likely when it was stolen it was given a hard time and was subject to a large insurance claim for the repairs. would be aware of any engine damage to it, and then theres the hassle of trying to sell it on again

Unless you're planning on keeping it for a very long time, it may not be worth it, as you will have trouble selling it on.

It may have been driven hard when it was stolen, but then, any car could have been driven hard by a previous owner. I've had mates that when selling/trading in a car, the night before they've done god knows how many miles bouncing off the limiter.

So you just don't know.

Walk away, there are plenty of genuine cars around.

At least you had the sense to HPI it unlike a lot of muppets. ;)

Depends on how long before it was recovered. I think a lot of stolen cars get locked away in garages for a few days after theft, prior to being 'sold on'. So if it was found hidden away you should be ok (maybe). Not sure if you can actually find this our though?

It's stolen recovered!!!!!!!

End of. :S

Right ive worked this one out... kind of

I rang the guy and he was in shock, he owns a garage and advised his HPI check says its not and was a bit worried...

I did a check on the RAC website and it has nothing against it, not stolen recovered etc

I then rang DVLA and they said there is nothing on their records to show stolen recovered therefore there was no insurance claim or anything like this made

I then rang mycarcheck who told me it was stolen recovered, and they advised it is on the cars history, however was not reported to insurance etc and they are the only company in the UK to show the full history of the car, they advised this doesnt make a difference they just like to let people know what happened

What you guys think now?

Sounds OK to me mind

HPI Equifax i think the company is called, is the 'Daddy'.

Would still walk away as not worth the bother.

Buy private & save 000's;)

He said he didnt know as his HPI check (he uses HPIcheck.com) was showing nothing. Like I say I did an RAC one and rang DVLA and they both said nothing showed on their records.

I'm not supposed to be doing them so I hope not! :p

It's showing as clear though, just a plate change to N12MLP. That's with proper HPI.
