Clio 182 Shocks Not Covered By Warranty

  Titanium Clio 182
Renault just rang my mother up and they have told e I need 2 new shocks and it's going to cost me £100. They said it's not covered on the warrenty as 25,000 is apparently ok for shocks to go. So what's happened to my 60,000 miles warrenty.

I might need legal advice on this.

im sure everyone else has had them replaced under warranty

surely thats bullshit that theyre not covered.

  Titanium Clio 182
I'm trying to ring them buy i can't get through now. Is it written down anywhere that the shocks are not covered under warranty. 25k is not that long.

I'd not be impressed with that. When I traded my 182 in at 12 months old one of the rear dampers had leaked completely dry, I figured I'd leave the dealer to find that out for himself!!!

  Titanium Clio 182
lol, why are they so shite!!! It must be a common problem then, and if so, renault should do something about it, £200 is just a stupid price to pay for something that should be under warranty.

Ring other dealers and see what answer they give. Or complain to customer services. Don't give in and pay!!

I only covered 18.5k on mine before it failed. Nice to see the Trophy rears are Sachs units. :approve:

Renault UK Customer Service 08000 723372 then to skip the crap press 2 then 4.

They told me to contact the dealer and then the dealer has to contact them, then the dealer will contact me with the outcome.

it is a common fault on the 182's, why renault arent using different units when they replace them, i really dont know. Seen people go through more than two sets of rear shocks on the 182. Seen others just dump the standard suspension in favour of coilovers, as the 182 shocks really dont last, for whatever reason.

As said, best thing to do is contact Renault UK, see if the dealer is being truthful or not. 25k isnt great, but if thats within the limits they've specified, then theres not alot you can do - much like brakes, batteries, etc

Yes but i reported this problem in my first service (the 12k) but they didn't find anything wrong with it (yeah cheers)

Its always like being passed arounf from pillar to post!!

surely phoning Renault UK and simply asking them when the warranty stops covering the shocks, should be enough, and they'd tell you that?

  Titanium Clio 182
Yes, it should be as simple as that. On http://www.renaultsport.co.uk i posted the same thread and they have told me that the shocks are not covered under the warranty. But it would be nice for renault to ring me back and tell me this.

How much will they cost to get fitted at another garage? Its the Clio 182 with the cup pack.

  Titanium Clio 182
Also renault said the car was unsafe to drive. Will they still let me drive it, i've been driving it like this for about 5 months and i've put another 12k on it, travveling from Portsmout to Middlesbrough and vice versa.

they cant stop you driving it - they have no power over you or the car. Worn shocks will affect braking distance, handling, and ride quality.

Drive it home, order a new shock absorber, and if you're even remotely handy, replace it yourself, its literally just a nut at the top, and a bolt at the bottom - dead easy, 10min job. Assuming its the rears.

I really do hate Reg Vary Renault Middlesbrough, I'm still waiting for them to call me back, yes its been 3 hours and i'm still waiting. It would be different if I was buying a car, ther would have rung back in 5 min. They are like flies around dog s**t when you want to buy a car, but when something goes wrong, they don't care the slightest.

they havn't got a choice its your car mate you can do what you want they can only advise u they cant stop you taking your car away.i had the same problem with shocks and it wasn't covered as they put this down to "wear and tear".they wanted £75 per rear shock, got the exact same o/e parts from a motorfactors 40 quid for the set,i'd recomend trying that you can fit them anywhere without even jacking the car up with a socket set, piss easy

  Titanium Clio 182
I haven't got a clue with all this shite. Where did you buy them from and will i need aspecial ones as i have the Cup pack on my 182? Or are they all very similar?

honestly renault just seem to want to get out of paying for anything!even when the numbers on the gear lever peeled of after 10k i was told they wernt designed to be used with your hand on them all the time, their a waste of time!i'm sure somebody on here could tell you if the part numbers are different, they are possibly slightly stiffer than standard 182s but sure someone will know.either way give your local motorfactor a ring and see if they can help you explain its for a 182 cup and they should be able to save you some money

  Titanium Clio 182
really, i need two rear ones. But i can't buy them this month as my 24k service just cost me £302 as its apparently a MAJOR service.

£302 for 24k service, thats ridiculous money!
I thought it would be around £200. I tell you that's the last time i'm going near a renault reg vardy dealership. I've heard i could have gotten the service done for £160 that's f**king half the price, i feel ripped off and very annoyed, and on top of that the shocks!!!

They are still awaiting a reply from the customer services department as they have asked one of their managers!!

If you DO end up forking out for them, then get a decent make while you're at it.

If insurance have an issue, tell them that it's a wear/n/tear part according to Renault.

Is the 24k service major? Here is my invoice for my 12k and 24k and i can't see any extra work which they have carried out?

24K is not a major service !!!!

Now where is the difference in this service? They seem to have done the exact same thing? I think i might go back and question this, ididn't ad first asi was in shock. The woman who was serving me was asking everyone how much the service was for my car, then she said, oh its the same as the 36k which seemed a bit weird then this other bird agree with her. I questioned her and she said it was a major service she said the 12k is minor, the 24k is major thent eh 36k is minor then the 50k is major.

Is she right or just pulling my leg?

They're talking bo11ocks about the servicing

Typical reno they'll charge you over the odds for servicing a car that they feel is unroad worthy because of the shocks

Total double standards

  clio 172 cup
i had this problem mine went at 22 thousand miles and told me no way are they covered so i kicked off demanded to speak to a manager and told them they would loose my custom if it was not sorted and all of a sudden renault decided they are now covered to##ers

  Titanium Clio 182
that's what i'm going to say.

My dads got a scenic, my brothers got a Clio 182 like myself. So that a lot of money they are going to lose. My dads already said he's not going back to renault, but i'll still tell them they are now going to lose all my families custom. I didn't realise i could get the services done at half the price they charge. My brothers also not going to renault, so i'll tell them and they will think they are going to lose a lot of money (which they are as we have all decided not to go to REG VARDY REANULT in Middlesbrough any more)

I should get them on the warranty as i should do anyway. Also my sprays water storage is leaking, i think the weather has froze it and cracked it, with it recently being freezing.

  Titanium Clio 182
well when i go over pot holes and bumps the car shudders like mad. Also there is a lot of knocking noise to the rear of the car. I was told this was the shocks.
