clio 182 test drive today

  RB Clio 182
Hi, i am fairly new to the forum, i was going to trade my corsa vxr nurb edition in for a red 197 but i wasnt going to saving enough money to go ahead.

So today ive been to look at an arctic blue 182, its got a few marks etc but the dealer only received it a few days ago and its waiting to be prepped, he told me it will be mint when its done and its saving me 200 pound a month with the finance alone after he did the figures which is more like it, plus insurance is 30 pound a month cheaper than my burg, so overall its alot of saving a month.

I test drove it for about 20 minutes and i had the biggest smile on my face ever from driving a car, more than my burg tbh.

It goes through the rev range okish up to 5k then after than it feels like a turbo kicks in and sounds mint compared to my non existant sounding vxr.

Does anyone know the car, its from quicks in lincoln, heres a couple of pics...

As i said, its got a few marks on the alloys and has a crack in the front wing which they are sorting, but ive got to change now to a 182, i just love how it pulled after 5k revs and the handling was ace, no bodyroll what so ever.

Dont get me wrong, my burg is an awsome car and i would keep it if it wasnt skinting me every month, as i have a less payed job now than i used to, but the clio was fantastic and i was making the salesman laugh at how good i thought it was.

If anyone knows the car let me know, its up for 3k, high milege which is putting me off at 86k i think it was.

Or does anyone else know of any nice examples of an arctic blue 182 for sale for 3k or under, thanks Tom.

One of the exhaust mounts needs sorting, it doesn't have both cup packs, possibly only one (suspension).

As long as the belts were done on time/recently then it doesn't look too bad.

Welcome to the site!

I wouldn't worry too much about the mileage buddy, 1*2's seem to cope pretty well with it providing they've been looked after (history is quite important, especially cambelt/aux belt changes. I've had 3 a 172, 197 an now a 182 trophy which I brought to get some money out of the 197 as I'm buying a house. Glad you enjoyed the experience, I'd reccommend doing a hpi check to due to the nature of the car but I don't think you can get much more bang for your buck when it comes to these.

Thanks mate, how do you know the exhaust bracket needs doing? Im not sure what packs it has, what packs can you get and what do you get? Thanks :)

They said they hpi check all their cars and they do a full check of the car and fix anything mechanical and bodywise before selling.

He told me its getting a new clutch fitted as it feels stiff and he told me i get a free 30 days warranty covering anything mechanically faulty, they also offer a warranty of their own for 299 but i cant remember how long it lasted.

Ill ask about the belts when he rings me back tomorrow, he is seeing if the finance goes through, although this doesnt mean i have to buy the car as i told him i will let him know tomorrow after a hard think.

They only offered me 11200 for my burg which i thought was terrible, so i have just had a look on webuy any car, they offered me 12060 and we want any car offered me 13200, so if they say everythings ok tomorrow, ill sell it to one of these which will make my monthly payments even lower as i only owe 11500 on the burg, so if i get 13000 off wewantanycar, thats 1500 straight down on the clio which means i will only owe 1500 on it.

Anyone had any experiences with webuyanycar or wewantanycar before?

My burg is in mint condition so they can go over it with a fine tooth comb, they wont find anything to knock the price down, also with wewantanycar offering me 13200, and the car dealer only offering me 11200, even if they take 500 pound off its still saving me 1500!

Thanks Tom.

No body roll? They are great handling cars, but mine cornered on its mirrors.

Is it on standard suspension?

Im not sure mate, i know it has a lot less than my burg, i will be lowering it anyway if i get one, are sportlines the best?

I want low but not so my spine comes out my head lol.

86,000 miles isn't high.

The front bumpers been painted.

When you say ''They're going to sort the cracked wing'' does that mean replace it or are they going to fill it and paint it? If they fill it it will crack again within a week as the wings are flimsy plastic.

You need to check when the belts were done (date and mileage) and who by as that's a £500 job at a specialist. If the belts were done by someone using tipex and a long screwdriver, then the chances are the timing will be out and it will be down 15bhp+.

Make sure its got two working keys, replacements are expensive.

Make sure its got 4 good quality tyres on it. Tyres make a massive difference to the handling on these.

Lastly, good luck dealing with WBAC and the likes. My sister took her range rover. They offered her £9,790 on their website. In person they offered her £7990 because ''The internet price is only a guide''. They couldn't fault the car as its mint. They blamed it on market fluctuations.

Im hoping they are going to replace it mate, its much simpler surely?

How much are the wings? Ill make sure it has two keys when he rings tomorrow and ill ask them if the belts have been changed, if they havnt, ill tell them to do it or i dont want it.

Its got 4 good michelins all round, im not signing anything untill its been prepped and i see the final product, im just seeing what prices i can get atm and if the finance would go through etc.

Are the cup packs essential and what comes with them, im new to renault.

Also whats the little black front splitter some of you have on your 182s? Id like one of them too.

Are they worth getting a full exhaust system for and a remap or isnt their much difference? Id like a decent exhaust. Also what air filters do you go for and which makes? Panel or induction kit?

Thanks again >)

Thought those nurburgring editions were £20k+ new and not been out that long? Those offers are a big hit to take.

No cup packs make it easier (and cheaper!) to fit coilovers as the hubs are different. Happy days.

Standard 182 exhausts fall apart, fast. So look at replacing it ASAP. Budget £400 for a cat back.

With regards to asking them to change the cambelt, DON'T!!! You will be much better off knocking some money off and getting it done at a Specialist. They are very sensitive to timing.

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
I wouldnt buy that - its a shed.

You can always try & sell the burg private & clear the finance - I would say your wasting circa 2k on the whole deal-

if you got 14000 for yours & then you have 2500 for a 182 which will bring home the SAME car private- probably better then you own the car outright rather that buying another expensive finance package!

Fair enough mate,

Dont one of the cup packs come with the anthracite wheels the same as the ones on the pics above?

Im not sure whether im buyin that one yet, ill see what it looks like when its ready to sell.

Do you know any others for sale? Ive thought about trying to sell mine private, but its very unlikely someone would have 15k to buy a car outright in this current climate.

Whatever i get for my car im going to be loosing a fortune, i know that and i know cars arnt an investment.

Id like an arctic blue 182 in good condition if anyone knows of any?

Hopefully ill find a good one :)

I'd try and sell private and be patient. At least yours (touch wood) should be trouble free given its age. Your monthly payments might be less with that 182 but probably not if you factor in the work needed on an older car.

The wheels are Silver- they are dirty- The car sits way high-

there arent many decent 182's for sale however for 3/3250 you could get a sub 60k Arctic blue with all cup packs - not the one above-

Id have a go ON PH selling yours- Free ad, 13999 ONO - its worth a circuit of 30 days-
Also the we want your car companies put a value on your car then try & knock you when they turn up- so just bear that in mind-

The wheels are grey mate, heres the add, you might be able to make them out better, i went to view it today...

I think ill see if wewantyourcar will give me the 13200 they quoted, if they do, ill pay the 11500 finance i owe on my vxr and put the rest towards a 182 and buy one outright.

It depends what i get for my burg as to whether or not i can buy one outright.

Heres a few others...

Do any of these look better?

Is it only the cup package that has the splitter mate?

I dont think im going for this one now, i think im going to try getter a better deal on my current car and buy one outright.

Has anyone got any pics of the comparisons between the cups and the non cups?

Thanks for all the help guys, as you can tell im new to renault.

Wow thats cheap mate!

I might be selling my car tomorrow if i get offered the right price so i can clear my finance and buy a nice one cash.

I rung my finance up today and i owe 10929, not 11500 which i origionally thought, so thats a bonus lol.

The Cup packs are suspension (wider track, stiffer, & lower. Anthracite wheels give it away but anyone can bolt them on and try to blag it is cup packed) and the bodywork (larger tail on the spoiler & front splitter)

I had a Golf MK4 GTi Turbo before I got my 182 and had to learn to drive the 182 properly as you really need to let them rev right to the limiter to get the performance from them.

As previously said, you'd be better off trying to haggle some money off the price instead of getting them to do the cambelt/aux belt job themselves. The F4R needs the proper knowledge and the correct timing tools to get it running spot on, not someone who "tipex times" them. Ideally, you want to see a dephaser pulley replacement in the service history too; it's not a service item but if the car hasn't had regular oil changes it may well need a new dephaser which means cambelt & aux belt aswell.

Im not going for that one mate, i want something in better condition and im going to see if i can get one cash instead of having finance again.

Thanks.

That's the best way, I looked at a few 182's from garages and walked away from them all as they know next to nothing about the specifics of Renaultsports.

Plus they will not budge on price even though you are much better informed than they are. Buying private from an enthusiast is your best bet.

Best of luck with your search pal.

Thanks alot mate, ive searched pistonheads and autotrader, ive seen a few decent ones, im after a black one or an arctic blue one if you know anyone thats selling for around 2.5- 3k mark :)

  Glacier 197
Are you from Lincoln or just seen that one as its at a dealer. There is a '54' 182 for sale privately near sleaford and it's been there quite a while so I'm guessing there's negotiation to be had on the 3200 price tag.

  172 Cup & Mini C 1.6
Personally buddy i'd go for a 172 u can get a minter with FSH and much lower mileage than the price u would pay for that 182

  172 Cup & Mini C 1.6
I'd have to disagree with ya there bud no vauxhall would ever handle anywhere near as good as a Renaultsport

  RB Clio 182
I'd stay clear of that.

I sold mine a month ago for £3600 and I doubt there would have been a cleaner Arctic 182 out there tbh.

Belts are the most important thing on any 1*2.

Very nice mate.

I preferre the 182 mate, i like the twin exits too but thanks.

a corsa nurburgring is such an awesome car.. much much more capable on the twisty stuff than an any year clio rs. shame for you to sell

It was an awsome car but the monthly payments were killing me, thats why i sold it today, ill be buying a black or blue 182 from a week tomorrow when i have all my cash together, im wanting to spend about 2600 at the top if i can drop on a good one, if not i might be able to stretch a little more.

I'd have to disagree with ya there bud no vauxhall would ever handle anywhere near as good as a Renaultsport

It did handle very well mate, the diff just pulls you round the bends, it was awsome, but i loved the feel of the high reving 182.

  172 Cup & Mini C 1.6
Fair dos bud i had a black 182 cracking car the milltex exhaust sounded great but i much prefer my 172 cup its a much better car to drive....Vauxhall have come on leaps and bounds since the early VXR's which have awful chassis but when it comes to noise not much comes close to a VXR i love the whoosh u get from the exhaust :)
