Clio 182 tuning general questions...

  Clio 182
Hi guys, i've just bought a Clio 187 which i'm picking up on Saturday, and am just interested in the modding potential of it later down the line after i'm used to the car and have had my fun at standard.

  1. How much actual difference does for example the RS Tuning remap really make... 182-195bhp http://www.rstuning.co.uk/renomaps.php, do you feel a noticeable difference in acceleration and power delivery for your £200?
  2. Can main dealers detect that you've had the mod done for example on regular servicing, or are they very hard to detect unless you're looking specifically for it? Do dealers ever make a point of checking? I have a full years warranty with the car and wouldn't get it done if it was likely the dealers would detect it and invalidate the warranty.
  3. What other mods actually make an additional difference without spending wads of moolah... would a good air filter + sports exhaust make any noticeable difference or money wasted compared to the remap?
  4. Are there any other reasonable-ish mods you can do to improve perfomance without spending silly money?
Thanks in advance,

Rich.

hi rich,

best thing would be to do a search on here as there are hundreds of threads about 182 tuning but to answer your questions to get you strated.

1. a well mapped std ecu like from paul at rs tuning can make a differnce to how the cars drives, more midrange and an extra couple of bhp at the top but really its about drivability.

2. unless your car goes in for some kind of ecu fault and the reflash it they maps remain undetected. however if you have a year warranty and you mention wnating to get used to the car why not treat yourself to the map when the warranty runs out. (making way for point 3)

3. as any norm aspirated engine breathing mods are the key, go for a replacement panel filter and a cat back exhaust system (decat maybe if thats your fancy but dont get a sports cat not worth it on a 182) and match inlet manifold. once thos are done get it mapped and it will be done to take into account those extra mods and help you get even more out of the engine. no point in mapping it and then adding breathing mods.
4. as 3 really, your not going to see huge gains from the 182 engines compared to the amount of money it will cost, but stick to basics air filter, exhaust, inlet manifold matching and then finally a re-amp and thats about as far as most will take the 182 lump without starting to spend some serious money. you will feel a difference with all those mods over a std engine.

Ok thanks a lot for the info mate and sorry if the quesitons seemed a bit silly... but I did search and read a lot of threads and there are so many differing opinions it was hard to come to definite conclusions when you know as little about cars as I do. :)
