Chav image? I really cant see that. It's not a Ford is it?!

f**king hell lads. I was seriously thinking of getting rid of my escort Rs turbo and getting a 182. These comments have really put me off. Looks like I'm gna have to keep looking at the focus st170.

Drive one before you make up your mind, there's a good chance you'll love it and learn to live with the faults. As said already, every car goes wrong/has its problems at some point.

On mine the only thing that annoys me a bit is how lumpy it is when cold and the fact the steering wheel is melted to fook. Apart from that, I love it!

I have no prob with the 182 steering wheel.

What is an OP?! Or should I not ask?! :D

Pic of the steering wheel...WHU air freshner has pride of place...and the engine bay :D

Just noticed you have a Rari! Can I have a go?

Ferrari and Clio seems a weird combination in terms of image!

LOL @ chav image!

Didnt you go onto a 197 right after? Was you expecting that to evade the chav image and did it?

Gotta love the 'chav bashers' on t'internet.

I'll take you out in it but you cant drive it :D

I needed a daily car so I bought the Clio. It seems ok and does a job. Has four seats and gets from A to B without reliability problems :D

The F is a whole different ball game. Shocking running costs, probably losing about a grand a month on depreciation etc etc...but its great fun.

I get to go out on some cracking supercar runs and meet some great people at great places. We're all good friends and meet up every couple of weeks.

Went to Lord Pembrokes castle with over 100 of us supercars there, Hedingham Castle, Cliveden etc. Chris Evans pops along sometimes (he wont mind me saying that) as well as a couple of other celebs.

We do a lot of charity runs, especially for Little Havens childrens hospice :approve:

- The steering wheel is crap.
- The automatic wipers have a mind of their own.
- The automatic headlights don't come on unless it's pitch black outside.
- The seating position is too high.
- The standard alloys are too heavy (IMO).

Take it on a trackday, if you haven't done so already - if you can afford to run a ferrari, you could afford to buy a new 182 if you bin it(!) - and the little things you might dislike will suddenly become insignificant!

Why take a clio on a track day when you could take a Rarri?

Never tracked the Clio. Maybe one day :)

Besides, the car would be insured for track days if I did do it. :rasp:

I'd take the Ferarri round - once - but personally I wouldn't be able to drive it properly, for fear of having a big accident, because you can't get trackday insurance for it - from what I've seen, if the car is worth more than £25k you can't get cover (in fact there was a ferarri on one of the days I've done, and it was very slow in the corners, presumably because the driver didn't want to take any risks). Whereas with the clio, £60 for insurance for the day, no worries.

Do it, it's a blast!

A lot of policies on these cars include track days anyway. A few of the boys buy them just for the track. The 360 Strad and 430 Scud are really just meant for the track.

Just because someone has a Ferrari doesn't make them a good driver. Trust me on that one :D

I'm not that good a driver and I know my limits. I've seen many a slip up on the track by a Lambo and Ferrari driver.

Still got a massive excess on anything though, and if you don't drive like a tw@t the you'd be alright.

Gotta love the 'chav bashers' on t'internet.

it is a chavy car the 182. the 197 was good for a while but will shortly become a chav choice over the 182.

yeah i went 182 -> 197. they are good cars. i just felt the 182 became the chav chariot of choice as proven by the amount of goons on this forum. Likewise the same will eventually happen to the 197.

it is my opinion so i can't really see the problem. there will obviously be a lot who disagree with me. but there are many who agree with me.

I know what you mean, 90% of the Renaultsports I see on the road are driven by tw@ts or in the case of the clio, are chavved up with four zorsts and a gay bodykit, seems to be the chavs choice now,

  Lotus Exige, 182
Craig - yeah, that's true, although I get the excess insured as well. It's not just if you drive like a tw@ though, it's what others do as well.

OP - personally, if I had a ferrari I wouldn't be able to resist taking it out for one day at least (but I'd be crapping myself!) - it's the only chance you'd get to experience it properly. But I'd do any track in the 182 first, to get to know it, and you can have a completely different experience with a sweet handling hot hatch and it's a lot of fun to irritate much more expensive cars in!

yeah i've got nothing against the cars, tbh, i wish i still had my 197 as it was awesome. but tbh, i'm getting a bit old for driving round in a RB 182 or similiar. i'll leave that to the 20 year olds.

would have my nimbus 197 back in a shot. cracking car.

Very difficult to spin a modern day F like a 360 or a 430 as it has all the electrics like ASR to keep it safe. Unless of course you have "Sport" mode on :D

does it really bother people the fact that ive been hearing the automatic wipers and lights are crap.

in all honesty, does that really matter. just use the switch yourself?????

also another question. can i see a pic of a typical melted steering wheel, how the f**k does that happen lol.

tbh i aint completely put off, i reallly need to see one first

I couldn't say it better myself :D

I'd like to see these melted steering wheels. And who really cares about the automatic wipers?! Seriously, who cares?

Don't know what the deal with the automatic wipers and lights is as mine have always been as good as gold!

  Clio 182 Trophy
Get the Trophy mate limited numbers (500 UK) but great cars came 7th in 100 best drivers cars the other day in EVO mag well equal 7th with Ferrari F50. Not bad for a car you can get for little over £6000! You also get Recaro seats standard and lighten alloys!

OP = Original Poster

Yea I find the steering wheel fine too - I was meaning that if you're used to driving a car with a smaller wheel and get in the Clio, if it feels alright then it must be ok! if that wasn't clear lol. Usually when you drive a car with a small wheel and get in one with a big wheel feels like a boat!!

  Black 197
Steering wheel issues :-

1. The thumb grips wear and eventually cave in unless you drive like a rude boy

2. The leather around the wheel falls to pieces and looks utter crap

I'd say a good 80% of 1*2's have a battered steering wheel, I mean K-Tec sell replacements ffs..

  LY Clio 182 cup
The seats are too flat, little support and no lumber, steering wheel is too big and melts if not careful and the exhaust fills up with water

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
Ive had a few 182's & one thing I have noticed apart from the usual problems highlighted already is how slow the steering rack can be going from full lock to full lock-
Im talking do something like a 3 point turn- but if you take a tight left & a tight right fast the steering rack struggled to keep up-

Anyone else had this problem?

its all part and parcel of owning a car, u love it when its well n hate it when its poorly, and everything else u just have to put up with, no such thing as a perfect car, mines had all the probs u can name and i still love it to bits, it never fails to make me smile when i get on the open road n give her a workout. ive driven allsorts of fast cars n none compare to the rs clio imho. fun, fun, fun with a capital F ftw

This thread is so gay tbh. Get a decent 182 where it should be

Open up the taps. Enjoy. No manufacturer makes a small car with a better chassis imo

If you can "afford" to buy and run a 360 why does that automatically mean you also have loads more excess cash?
