Clio 2 1.4 16V K4J throttle "dead zone" after startup

  2001 Clio 2 1.6V K4j
Hi!

My 2001 Clio 2's engine has a weird problem and I've been unable to narrow down the cause. After startup when I hit a spot on the accelerator the RPM drops and even falls down below idle speed. I was able to reproduce this when pulling on the throttle in the engine bay. This is mostly noticeable when the engine is cold or has been shut off for a good half an hour at least, after the engine reaches operating temperature it seems to be fixed or at least much harder to replicate. The dead zone is there when revving in neutral and during driving too, resulting in some jerking and kangarooing when I hit that spot during acceleration. I've bought this car about 2 months ago and have no knowledge about what work has been done previously on this issue.

A mechanic buddy of mine did the following work on the car:
  • Couldn't find any fault codes on the diag and couldn't replicate the problem despite the car staying there overnight.
  • Cleaned the throttle body and air intake.
  • Spark plugs and air filter has been replaced.
Any tips would be appreciated!
