Clio Crunch

  Scirocco GT 2.0
I see stuff like this on Pistonheads etc and my eyes start welling up!

I could have purchased this for similar money to my 1.4 which I only purchased in June before the bottom fell out of the market. (bad move it turns out!)

Only thing reigning me in is the insurance prices, but i'm even starting to poopoo them now!

Could I be driving a 197 this time next week? lol!

Only my patience will tell (and I have a seriously lack of that)

OMG i'm actually going to cry in a minute, not even joking.

Prob not as much as some current 197 owners though, LOL!

Well lets face it, Tax is expensive on these and insurance is the mitigating factor in alot of these cars, and there not the most economical cars on the road!

Im not suprised that trophy sold for £6500 the other week

Well tbh, i'm getting 32mpg avg. on my 1.4 at the moment so it can't be much worse than that, 25-27?

I paid that for my 172 cup 2 and a half years ago, and it was a serious bargain at the time, 182's were going for 9/10k.

DEPRECIATION FTW!

  Trophy #490
It is depressing reading through the Clio classifieds now isn't it :dapprove:
Back in August I took out an R27 for a test drive at Renault Wakefield and they offered me £7500 for my Trophy in part-exchange. I bet if I took it again tomorrow they would only offer me £5000 now!
Brilliant time to buy though as there are some right bargains around.

My 182 often averages the high thirties mpg.

Agree though, the bottom really has fallen out of the market! It's a buyers market at present with loads of bargains to be had!

Your right... There are some bargains, but if you've got a newish car atm your going to loose out majourly unless you can afford to keep both.

Old story though, supply has far out stripped demand, this being the reason along with the running costs of a hot-hatch that doesnt appeal to people.

Im not suprised to be honest.

Is that per the trip computer or you working it out yourself?

I cannot believe that a 197 does an average of 28mpg but your 1.4 does 32. Something is a miss here.

thats a fantastic price on the 197! The downside to that is mine which i bought for 13k in May is prob worth about 10k now.

that is going by the trip computer, but I seem to spend most of my life at the pumps tbh so it does seem to gussle quite a lot, I speed about £120/30 a month on petrol and I only drive about 800ish miles a month, most of it crusing on the motorway to work and back.

I've mentioned the consumption to renault a couple of times and they shrug their shoulders, but it is starting to wear thing now though

Wow, that's utter s**t.

My 172 does 50 odd when I reset in on the motorway and get an average of 38-39mpg on a week as most of my driving is also m-way/a road.

I would say start an mpg thread but it will prob get locked, but it would be interesting to see what other mk3 non RS petrol engined Clio's are getting.

Soz about all the reposts on that page btw, think CS was going through some downtime at that moment, and I was getting frisky with the post button, lol

My 1.2 averages 38mpg. Thats just driving around town and to and from work in heavy traffic.

Although its a buyers market at the minute, its a ball ache trying to sell your car in the 1st place to free up the cash to get another.

Dreading trying to sell my 1.2

Depreciation is a fact of life, in the current market i imagine that smaller engined cars are selling faster.

yeah like hoff said, it ian't just an issue for renault. for all cars. when you have the model such as the 197, the pinnacle of the current clios for sale it was always going to get hit. Lets be honest too. The clio's never held their value well anyway.

i bought my new 182 back in 2004 for 12.5k, list was just under 16k? lol got 8.5k trade in in nov 2006. So the plummet of the 197 prices makes no surprise really. but i think they have dived more due to people tightening their buckles etc.

Indeed! I'm doing the sums at the moment, I could prob get £8000 for mine, going by what's on autotrader (private)

Then buy a 197 or the like for £9-10k

Jobs a gooden, but what I actually want is a fast diesel really. Any ideas?!

I know the words fast and diesel shouldn't go together, but surely there must be something!

  182 FF Inferno
This is what puts me off paying £10k for a car. My current limit is £6k as you know then you're not going to lose THAT much.

I don't think anything is selling to be honest. Xmas coming, economists warning of things getting harder. Think people are sticking with what they got for now.

yeah couldn't agree anymore tbh. i know i would have normally been looknig for something new about now. but i have decided i won't be as i can't be arsed taking such a hit for something newer in the current climate. seems like too much money i would like to lose.

Hmm i'd have a 197 over a fast diesel tbh. I think that any car enthusiast should have hot hatches while they're still young, theres time for diesels later in life imo of course.

Can't go wrong with a Fabia VRS if you do go derv though, remap well aswell.

Fabias are supposed to be good, but I can't see myself in one tbh.

Keep talking like that and my pen will start drawing closer to the cheque book tbh :banghead:

What to dooo

  clio 172 cup
if i search within a 40mile radius on autotrader for my 172 cup ive lost £500 but if i search 100milles ive lost £2500 lol had the car for over 18months

Cheque book ftw!

On a serious note, test drive the cars your considering i.e. what ever fast derv your thinking about and then a 197 and you will know instantly which ones for you.

I was thinking of buying a MK3 Dynamique S back in june, i test drove the dci 86 and a TCE. Instantly i knew that the TCE was the one to pick for me, although i also realised that the TCE didnt have enough to justify the upgrade imo.

Going to test drive a 1*2 and MCS some time in july then decide, or pending on insurance maybe add a 106 gti / saxo vts for a cheaper option.

I love this chant about re-mapping diesels, ask any Vag owner what they have replaced not much later than getting the Remap and the answer will normally be the clutch. So that cheap remap has turned into an expensive clutch.

If Skoda intended the Fabia to be faster than 130bhp then they would have uprated the clutch. Any car can be faster with modification.

The answer being if you want a fast car then buy a fast car:rolleyes:

Yeah I think i'll go for some test drive when I have some time off soon.

You don't fancy buying my 57' 1.4 Dynamique S then? lol

and the fact most ppl claim they have got upto 200bhp from a remap

Leon FR, much better money than a Golf aswell.

uninvolving to drive, my mate just got a 58 plate FR diesel, its quick in the mid range, but the steering lacks any real feel, i wouldnt want to gun down a b-road in one thats for sure.
