PEAD SCORES FANTASTIC CLIO CUP DOUBLE

An overjoyed Ed Pead (Beckenham) took his first ever ELF Clio
Renaultsport
UK Cup race victory during the opening round of the championship at
Snetterton on Sunday before doubling up during the afternoon with his
second
triumph in as many races.

The 25-year old Mardi Gras Motorsport driver, sixth in last seasons
championship, made the perfect start to his 2003 campaign by
underlining his
title credentials to take an early nine point lead in the driver
standings
from Xcel Motorsports Oli Wilkinson (Balham).

Mark Davies (Mirfield) was completely dominant during a difficult
qualifying
session for many, the Yorkshireman taking NGK Laser Platinum Pole
Position
for both rounds. At the green light of race one, however, it was Pead
who
got the better start from second on the grid to lead Davies and the
Xcel
pairing of Charlie Butler-Henderson (Royston) and Eoin Murray (Dublin).

BUXTON TAKES BRANDS WIN AFTER PERFECT WEEKEND
Former champion Danny Buxton (Hartford, Cheshire) took his first win of the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup season at Brands Hatch this afternoon to get his 2003 title bid firmly on track after a perfect weekend.

The Boulevard Team Racing driver started the race alongside Xcel Motorsport’s Eoin Murray (Dublin) on the front row after taking NGK Laser Platinum Pole Position during Saturday’s 20 minute qualifying session. At the lights, however, it was Murray and team-mate Charlie Butler-Henderson (Royston) who made the better starts.

A charging Buxton managed to pass Butler-Henderson on lap two going into Paddock Hill Bend and after setting the Performance Friction fastest race lap of 53.239 seconds (82.91mph) on lap five he snatched the lead from Murray with a tremendous move going into Surtees after the Irishman had run wide at the exit of Graham Hill Bend.

FRIENDS REUNITED BACKED DRIVER TO CONTEST CLIO CUP

ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup team SpeedEquipe Motorsport has confirmed Mini Seven racer Jason Porter (Westerham) - who is sponsored by the hugely popular Friends Reunited website - will contest the remainder of the 2003 championship with the outfit as a replacement for Ian Curley (Marden).

Curley, who made the step up from Minis himself along with SpeedEquipe at the beginning of the season, has opted to pull-out of the championship following a family bereavement and so 37-year old Porter will now take his place starting at the Croft round on 12th/13th July where he will ironically be reunited with his ex-Mini associates.

CHAMPIONSHIP LEADER BUXTON FINALLY SEALS BTCC DEAL

ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup championship leader Danny Buxton (Hartford) this morning signed a deal to contest the remainder of the 2003 British Touring Car Championship starting this weekend at Croft in North Yorkshire – however he will also contest the 10th round of the Clio Cup on Sunday.

The 2001 Clio Champion has agreed terms to drive the Team Halfords Peugeot 307 from this weekend onwards, replacing 2001 Formula Renault UK Champion Carl Breeze who has moved to the GA Motorsport squad.

Buxton, who has been actively seeking a touring car seat since his Clio Cup series victory two years ago, will continue to drive for Boulevard Team Racing in the championship this weekend at Croft and will also race during the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup’s prestigious DTM-supporting rounds at Donington Park at the end of July.

IMPRESSIVE CROFT WIN KEEPS ROOKIE FILDES IN TITLE HUNT

Total Control Racings Jonthan Fildes (Trim, Co. Meath) further enhanced his 2003 ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup championship chances at Croft on Sunday after an excellent drive gave him the second victory of his rookie year in the category.

Having qualified on only the third row of the grid Fildes looked to be facing an uphill task for round 10 of the season after Boulevard Team Racings Danny Buxton (Hartford, Cheshire) took NGK Laser Platinum Pole Position with a time of 1m 32.256 seconds (82.99mph) - a massive eight 10ths faster than nearest challenger Oli Wilkinson (Balham) in his Xcel Motorsport car.

CHARITY CLIO CUP OUTING FOR AUROK TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Toby Phillips (Alton, Hampshire), technical director of ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup team Aurok Motorsport, is to make a one-off appearance as a driver in the championship at the upcoming DTM-supporting rounds of the series at Donington Park on 26th/27th July as he bids to raise money and awareness for a leading national charity.

The 29-year old, whose brother Jules Phillips is team manager of the Colemore-based outfit, has never previously raced before and so the Donington Park event - which is expected to attract one of the biggest motorsport crowds in the UK this year - will be a very steep learning curve for the Hampshire driver. He will be raising money for the Alton-based Treloar Trust which is a charity dedicated to providing education, training, care and support for young people with physical disabilities.

BOOSTED GRID FOR BIGGEST CLIO MEETING OF THE YEAR

An influx of four new drivers has been confirmed for this weekends 11th and 12th rounds of the ELF Clio Renaultsport UK Cup at Donington Park - the championship preparing for its biggest meeting of the season as support to the DTM German Touring Car Masters.

Boulevard Team Racing will run a total of three cars at Donington with 19-year old Clio Cup rookie Syd Wilson (Airton) to join regular drivers Martin Johnson (Alford) and Danny Buxton (Hartford, Cheshire). The Yorkshire driver, a barman by trade, may also be joined by another new Boulevard driver but the fourth entry remains unconfirmed at this stage.

Stancombe Vehicle Engineering will finally make its first appearance in the 2003 championship with Colum McCabe (Ferring) - who celebrates his 28th birthday on the Saturday of the meeting - agreeing to compete with the outfit with a view to joining for the rest of the year.
