Clio DCI hard starting

  2002 clio 1.5 dci 65
Hi People, im after a bit of assistance, ive had a read but cant find my solution so im hoping a more direct question will help.

i have a 2002 1.5DCI clio 65, its done alot of miles ~152k but when warm runs great and still returns 60-63 mpg.

The problem

about 18 months ago the glow plug light illuminated and never went off, and it still hasn't, i self-diagnosed the problem at the time to the blocked/dirty egr valve, cleaned it all was fine, but for the past 6 months is been getting harder to start first thing in a morning or if its been stood a couple of hours, i have to crank it over for sometimes 10 seconds it will attempt to start and then not so keep cranking till it does (applying no throttle).

once its fired up and run for a few seconds its perfectly fine, but for the first few seconds its rough and smoke puthers out of the exhaust, white (diesel?) not blue (i.e. oil)

recently i changed the timing belt but made no difference,
ive changed the glow plugs no difference
ive totally bypassed the egr system no difference
fuel filter, air filter, oil and filter no difference
MAP sensor no difference
Temp sensor no difference

im running out of cheap tests to carry out, hence why im after advice, ive used my cheap elm237 code reader thing and no stored faults.

what i did seeing as the glow plug light stops on all the time is wire an LED straight to the glow plugs so i can see when the operate so i know when to start it.

Please help, would be a real shame to have to scrap it.

Thanks,

  Whichever has fuel
I recently (Within the last 6 months) had to do 2 injectors on a dci with the same symptoms.

Did that, ran some redex through the system over 2 tanks of fuel and then sold it to a mate. He's still driving it now with no issues at all.

oh dear, not the news i was looking for, the injectors need "coding in" dont they?

Sounds like injector leaking back about the right mileage as well.

leaking back as in leaking diesel into the cylinder?

Oh buggar, more £££ then :(

do new injectors need coding in? in a similar way to the tdci fords?

New ones would, I would refurb them tbh. No need for coding plus you have piece of mind too.

is there a diy refurb that can be attempted (for an semi expert diy'er)? or is it a specialist only job?

yeah i was thinking so, ive cleaned my pertrol injectors before, just open them and fire carb cleaner backwards through them, but having read this can damage the dci injectors, looks like ill have to fork out again!

thanks for advice

just had a quote off a local company,

£15 + vat to test each one, and worst case if an injector is completely goosed £110 + vat and they dont charge the £15

how does this sound from anyone elses experiences?

right, bit of an update.

i borrowed a mates Snap-on Ethos code reader (running 10.4 sw for those in the know)
it gave me a few codes and desctiptions but im having trouble finding any info on them.

initial read was as follows

1004 - Inlet Manifold Pressure Circuit Malfunction (this was listed 3 times)
1069 - Accelometer Circuit - Current
1026 - Preheater Plug Circuit Malfunction
101A - A/C cold loop relay Circuit Malfunction.

now i know they look pretty self explanatry but the codes relate to nothing i can find on the net,

so i cleared the codes and took it a spin

this is what re registered
1004 - Inlet Manifold Pressure Circuit Malfunction (this was listed 2 times)
1026 - Preheater Plug Circuit Malfunction
101A - A/C cold loop relay Circuit Malfunction.

whilst messing with the gadget i tried another method of reading the codes and it gave the following

08 - Circuit Manifold Absolute pressure - Sensor (twice)
233 - Preheater Plugs Circuit
351 - A/C Cold Loop Relay Circuit

so similar descriptions but different codes.

has anyone had any dealings with the snap-on kit before? does it give "snap-on codes"?

gives me something to look at though i guess, but i have changed the manifold pressure sensor for a new one off ebay!

thanks
