Clio DCI oil pressure light

Yesterday we bought a clio dci 65 2002. It's in really good condition and runs very sweetly.

When we were driving home after about half an hour the oil pressure light came on, along with the mandatory STOP light. Nothing seemed a miss and it went out before I got the chance to pull over.

I thought this might be because the oil had got hot and thinned out (may not have been changed for a while) and subsequently the pressure had dropped.

TodayI changed the oil, new filter and filled up to the right line. All is well I thought. It sat on idle with no problems for about 20 minutes. When I took it up the road after a couple of seconds the light came on and stayed on until I turned the car off.

I've tried jiggling around with the wires and it doesn't seem to make a difference. The car still runs absolutely fine. I thought it might be the pressure sensor giving a false reading above a certain rev range. I tried to hook my RS tuner up to it to get some live data but it doesn't display. No related fault codes (AC sensor reading not plauible)

Can anyone point me to what the cause of this could be, where the temp sender is. We're rather poor after buying a new car so can't just bomb it with parts until it goes away.

TIA

Your coolant not starting to develope a oily like blobs in the coolant expansion tank?

I had an issue last year at a cliosport meet, oil light and stop little came on, and off and then back on multiple times,
the modine ( think that's the name ) had failed internally letting oil into the coolant and pressure dropping.

Basicly and oil cooler, sat behind the oil filter.

Could be a dodgy sensor, also the oil light does come on when brake fluid is low ( someone will correct me if wrong )

Just check the coolant and there are no oily marks of blobs

Brake fluid level is the same as in my 182 so shouldn't yield any problems. it's around the top of the white lip, pic doesn't show to much.

We drove it yesterday and it kept coming on and off as you described, didn't seem to be a pattern to it being on and off.

Which one of the below sensors is the oil pressure on (will chuck some wd40 on it)

Call me a risk taker but we've just driven 30 miles with the light on all the way. Nothing sounds wrong so I assume the pressure is okay and we would have blown up if it wasn't.

Sensor?

Just to finalise this thread.

As there was no knocking and the car ran fine I was confident the sensor may be busted even though the fault codes showed nothing

I replaced the sensor today which is on the front of the engine, neither of the TWO near the filter. It's the sensor just behind the fan with a single wire coming out.

To replace it you will need a deep 22mm socket and about 10 minutes of your time if you have the tools. Leave the car to stand for a bit so all the oil it in the sump.

Sensor was £6.24 from euro car parts.

PROBLEM SOLVED. Fantastic, no light after a substantial drive.

There is absolutely no info on this all over google and all renault forums!!! Even the dealers told me the wrong location for the switch haa

Glad you got it sorted ! Learn a new fault everyday :)

Word of advice, never ask Renault the selfs as usually 9-10 they haven't a clue.....
