As far as I know its just trength and a slightly different final drive. I've just put a JB1 on my 1.6 so Ill let you know when I drive it tommorrow.

i have put a jb1 in my 1.6 and it only lasted 3 weeks!
wether the fitting of the box was done badly or it was a bad box im unsure of,
i think that the fitting had been done wrong still unsure whats up with my car,
it started with anything over half lock steering making noises then ive lost all movement,
i can still find all my gears im just insure as to what actually up with it,
been told that it must be sumthing inside the box which is f*cked
also been told it sounds like the diff
anyone with any ideas?i have posted about this before but no1 could help

Can you put it in gear, release the clutch fine but it doesn't actually move?

Diff circlip. Super common, take it to a garage and tell them to fit you a new diff circlip but tack weld it in place as now its popped out, it will keep doing it.

cheers for that i did find that information and a pic on a post on here,
would i need a new circlip or could they strip it and weld it back on?
i have a 1.6 box on my old clio which is currently on ebay for spares but the box/engine has 107k miles so thats y i bought a jb1.so fixing the circlip would solve striping and refiting the another box and more money.

em my old engine?the one one ebay?its a t reg 1.6 8v still complete and in the car well the driveshaft is in my room as we swapped a shaft to my new clio when the box started to play up as thought it couldave been that.
only that the miles are like 107 i think,head has been skimmed and new coilpacks em was well looked after by my mate who had the car before me thats why i bought a car that had 106k miles.

K4M is the 1.6 16v engine code fella. If you had that, I'd have taken the bottom end, nevermind

Just go to Renault, they'll have them in stock I'd of thought. Jack the car up, remove the passenger side driveshaft and you'll see the diff casing, the circlip is visible from there!
mini-valver. Is the only difference the final drive? What doy uo mean by strength?
Reason being im urgently trying to sort a box for my rallycross car, before we buy a sqencial in a couple of months .
I was going to use a 1.6 box with a 1.2 final drive, but if the only differece is the final drive I should just use a 1.2 box.
Would be VERY interested how your car goes with that gearbox in!

I just sold an Avanti close-ratio box that would have been ideal for you.
The actual ratio's will depend on the code suffix..
There are various final drive and gear ratio combinations...depending on the suffix.
Unfortunately Renault being Renault they didnt just make ONE gearbox for a 1.2 and ONE for a 1.6!

how can you tell what gearbox is on your car
ie ive replaced my gear box in my car and would like to check what gear box it was replaced with for example mines a 182 so i wanna know if they replaced it with a 182 2 litre gearbox and not a 1 litre gearbox if that makes sense
