Clio II Alternators

  Clio II 1998 1.2
Hi all,
Hopefully a quick question; I need to track down an alternator down for a MK2 1998 S Reg 1.2 (1149cc), it's just going to be a scrap yard jobby. Do the other sized engines use the same alternator, or do I need a 1.2 one specifically?
If I need a 1.2 one, how similar looking are the engines, as I don't want to go into a scrappy pick up one of a 1.4 because the engine looked identical to a 1.2.
Thanks in advance :)

Well bearing in mind that Renault themselves got the alternator wrong on mine (twice) - I'd say it was a very good question to ask!
I don't actually know myself - though I'm sure someone will be along with the answer....

Thanks Darren, at first I thought it could be a stupid question, but if Renault can get it wrong, I'm sure I can...

Also, is there an 8v 1.2 and 16v 1.2?
I haven't got the paperwork on me to double check and I'm looking online for an alternator, and some ebay ads state 8v some state 16v.

*edit - just looked online 8v = 1998 -2012, 16v 2001-2012. As it's 1998 it must be 8v.
