Clio not showing up on insurance quotes..

Why would a car not show up when you put the reg into website for insurance?

The car I'm interested in buying doesnt show up on anyones website. It doesnt show on the DVLA, RAC or AA.

I've HPI checked it and the reg comes back fine. The car is a Iceberg 172ff on a 04 plate. Registered in August 2008. Must be one of the last 172s registered and I've not seen to many on here.

I'm not that bothered as we are covered by the HPI, but the wife is worried.

Any ideas? Could it have been on a private plate? Its only had 1 owner from new.

you have to wait 7 months for it to be registered.

Some sites must be very very very slow to update, when I put my reg in last night to get a quote on one site it came back as my old 306 XSi which has not worn the plate for 3 years ! All the others came up fine though.

mine was a nightmare too, no one had any of the details of my 182! turns out this was because it was an import from ireland.

Direct Line dont even list a 172 as 2004. I can only do a quote for a 182!

I'm not that bothered. I've seen the garages HPI and I've done one of my own so I'm covered.

Car isnt a import.

I pick it up Friday. Cant wait. I'll get some pics up soon. Managed to talk the price down by £900! Good time to be buying atm.

It's not an import. Well accrording to HPI it isnt. Its got an alarm, locking wheel nuts and glass etching. I checked on the test drive.

The HPI comes back as no other plates know to have been put on the car, but DL say that the car could have had private plates on it. I think its more down to their computers thinking the mk2 ph2 172 was between 2001-2003 and the 182 2004 onwards, so I dont get the choice.

Sorted out the insurance with Direct Line in the end. Couldnt get their website to believe me that it was a 2004. I had to ring them. Spoke to a muppet and he ended up charging me interest even though the internet offered me 0% if I paid monthly. Wasnt happy so rang again, moaned and they wiped off the interest and gave me a further discount because of the muppet who I'd spoken to earlier (albeit small!).

Tried greenlight and they where slightly cheeper than DL but wanted it paying in one go. As I've now got it on 0% might as well do monthly as the money is better in my bank account than in theirs.

Pick the car up tonight. Cant wait. Today is going very, very slowly.

I have had similar issues looking for the 197 CUP. On money supermarket you can select this exact car, but on the matrix behind, it infact quotes on a 1.2 Freeway which obviously gives a ver very low premium. Not happy
