Clio Owning Advice

  EP3 Civic Type R
After a bit of advice/feedback and the like from the people who know best about Clios...those that own one!

I'm no stranger to Reno's- I owned a Mk1 Phase 2 Valver up until August last year.

I'm after advice firstly on insurance. I've had a search using the search facilities but nothing has really helped specifically in what I want to know. I no insurance is so vague, but being given a hand in the right direct would be helpful.

I'm looking to buy a 172 later this year (June time) when I turn 21. Obviously, insurance isn't going to be £300 a year, or too easy to find but I was wonder what kind of prices any 20/21 year olds out there pay on 172/182's and the best/most trustworthy insurers to go with. At the moment I own a Fiesta Turbo and at 20 Elephant.co.uk gave me a good deal on this. However I've heard stories of them not being great in the event of an accident and with a fairly new car I'd like my cover to be 100% true. So any help much appreciated on that...

Also what are 172's like to live with as a daily drive. I no everyone laughs about French reliability but I had the Valver for 12months and did 1 gearbox..my RS is always off the road! I'd just like some feedback really.

Any help much appreciated. As said, I'm not some young chav out for cheap insurance and a quick car... I want proper cover and proper advice on owning a 172. I've had enough of the quick but unreliable Fiesta Turbo now and more and more things keep pointing me back to Reno ownership!

Sorry for the essay!

There very reliable sure they have week points but noone starts a topic up saying there cars fine you only ever read problems on here.

As for insurance depends I got £3k quotes at 20ish whereas other in similar circumstances (NCB area etc) were paying £1k.

i just got insured on my 172 on wednesday, 2 months into my policy on a 02 1.2 for 897, cost me an extra 700 to get it, fully comp with quinn direct, im in NI too so i guess its ok-ish. however if your ringing quinn, tell them you actually own the car or they wont give you a quote, i found this out as they wouldnt quote me on a 172 (causethey dont insure that car). but my mate who owned a cup got insured by them, so just tell them that. im 20 now and 21 in september and 1 yrs NCB.

I've managed to find some quotes of around 1k when I turn 21 so that's ok. I do have a slight advantage as most of us women in the world of insurance seem to! Lewis, could you maybe just ask your friend who he is insured with? I want proper insurance not a short cut so I'm getting a load of quotes, without cutting corners... but I'd never pay anymore as it's just dead money!

As for the reliability or day to day living of the 172- never doubted for a second it wouldn't be pretty much very reliable, it's just nice to hear other people's experiences etc. Seems like the perfect replacement for the RS so I'm not comprimising performance but I'm getting better reliability. Can't wait!

Ta for the replies so far lads
