Clio Rev Counter

This is my first post here and dont know if i can actually ask questions for a Clio that isnt a Clio Sport but here goes

I have a standard 2000 Clio 1.2 but i have a few problems

- My rev counter dosent work when im driving but if i hold the trip reset button on and turn the ignition on it does work then when all the dials rise and fall, what could cause this ?

- I have 2 airbags but when i turn my car ignition on no airbag light/service lights come on, is this normal ?

The fact that your speedo doesn't work could be down to a few reasons. Do all the other dials in the cluster operate correctly?

When you do the IGN + Trip trick, do the SERV and airbag lights light up?

The speedo works, the fuel counter works the temp gauge works its just the rev counter that doesnt

And when i do the IGN + Trip trick the service light nor the airbag light come on, the service light dosent even come on when i turn the ignition on :S

Sorry yeah, I must have misread your original post.

The rev counter is a strange one, obviously not getting a feed for some reason - could be a simple loose connection on the rear of the cluster.

As for the lights, I suspect they have been taped up due to afault in the system somewhere. You'd need to take your dash apart to check this though.

Ok i think when i got the car the service light DID work but then suddenly never has worked again, so could it be a bulb has gone therefore making the airbag light not work ? and is it a hard job to remove the dashboard ?

The dash displays are LED's and very very rarely go so I'd discount that at this stage. They might both be linked to the rev counter problem - loose connection.

I've never taken a dash off on a Mk2 ph1 so can't help with that, should be some info on here though if you have a search about.

Thanks for that, that will help me alot tomorrow when try and do it i dunno but is it normal for a BASIC Clio 1.2 to have a blue top dash and grey bottom dash ? as i have seen most have all grey :S

I think the blue is specific to then 172 mate, regular 1.2's have grey

Surely this could be a possible previous crash where the dash airbag has gone and therefore the top dash has been replaced? Then they might have disabled the airbag light & SERV light in order to get away with MOTs?

I thought that and did a check and it hasn't been recorded plus i think a airbag light wont fail a MOT ? also all the front end parts look original so :S

Pretty sure the Airbag & Serv light do fail the MOT if they are not for the seats, iirc.

It might have never been recorded mate if it has had an impact, have you checked under the bonnet to see any give away signs?

I have looked under there and everything looks original, all the renault impressions on the bodywork and all that
