Clio RS 200 - insurance thinks its a 197?!

Firstly hi all!

Placed a deposit on a 2010 Clio 200 with the cup pack, very excited - I pick it up on monday.

However, had some interesting conversations with my insurance company today - they seem convinced that from its reg number its a 197!

They (Privilege) don't even have a non-cup clio renaultsport 200 on their system.

Whats going on here? Is this a known issue with these cars?

Whats the best course of action?

What is the reg?

insurance companies don't know what cars are tbh.

They couldn't answer me when I asked why a 197 and a 197cup are different cars (cups are cheaper fyi). Pillocks

It comes up as a clio renaultsport with 197bhp (so it's a 200) on my car check.

ask them what happens if they insure it as a 197 (as it's their fault for not recognising it as a 200) and you have an accident; is your insurance void, will they repair it as a 197 etc etc

or change providers

The dealer has now arranged 7 day cover for me on the car so I can pick it up, but yea - the insurance is going to be a headache I think.

Try Greenlight on here, they do discount for members.

...and they know there are different models of clio.

Try insuring a v6 through privilege! They might implode. "An engine, in the back?!"

Had the same with direct line, and queried it. Was told it was fine as it was based on number plate and dvla

Thanks for the recommendation mate, We would definately be able to find the model. Sometimes a reg search can bring up the wrong model but specialist like Greenlight can just find the model from the drop down list.
