Clio RS diesel/LPG version people views.

Since there are a few high milage RS owners on here I'm wondering what peoples preference would be to a cheaper to run RS either lpg as standard kit or a dci verison. It would have to have less Hp but say 140hp 1.9 dci (the engine exists) what would be peoples preference to this over the 197hp petrol?

ive got a Cup which is fitted with LPG mate, thats gotta be the way forward. just pop the LPG on on the motorway,or when sat in traffic going to work :)

  106 GTi
For a daily car I'd consider one, as long as I still had a rev hungry petrol car to use at weekends.

  Clio 172mk2
i have to say i prefer the petrol, but if they did a clio exact same as the sport but did a decent disel id consider one , like the golf gti tdi

  Peugeot 207 GT THP
I think Renault should definitely do it. If they made as good a job of it as they have with the petrol sports models it'd be a great car. The majority of us would probably still stay with the petrol versions, but petrol cars aren't always a realistic option for everyone and the sales of diesel cars is increasing each year.

Depends what LPG system is being run.It would have to be a multi-point injection system, as the mixer system just isnt effcient enough. The LPG system has to be serviced around every 3000 miles, as the condenser diaphragms(sp) get clogged up with coolant redisue and heavy-ends.

whats the performance like? my step dads range rover is on lpg and its just not the same.....

I wanted to convert to LPG... but renault did away with the spare wheel well... !!!

Oh, but I have two shiny tail pipes... so it's ok!! :S

  Nimbus Clio 197
performance is slightly down, but if your sat in traffic or on the motorway, you cant tell the difference. and its so much cheaper. i dont use it all the time, just run on petrol normally........

tell me more (v.interested expression on face)

well, just ask really! :) it was already fitted when i bought the car (would still have bought it without mind you!) so i see it as more of a bonues. ie. stick the LPG on while on the motorway, and save money every mile i go :)

Is there a brand name or model number on the kit youve got installed, also did you see any receipts when you bought the car that say how much the conversion was. Is there any downsides or side effects at all.

Do you notice it being much cheaper if you dont use it all the time. ours paid for itself quick with help of a juicy 14 to the gallon 3.5 litre rover engine lol.

i could never see one handling as good as a petrol version due to the weight etc

Must still be possible we had an escort van which had a tank not mounted in the spare wheel well, and I have seen it on Pug 306 which dont have either.

  Nimbus Clio 197
well, you get a much greater range if both tanks are full, and also its cheaper for 1 tank of petrol and one of LPG than for 2 tanks of petrol! so i will have saved money, and i havent spent any having the conversion done. i wouldnt have bothered buying it outright, coz i dont need it for the driving i do really, but i see it as a bonus and helps to make running costs a bit lower :)

ps. i'll have a look at the documentation later and see what i can find out

Will have to wait to find the spec of the new RS then it sounds like I only would want to go to LPG if it has a spare wheel well as I'd carry a spare anyway I don't want to have a 182 type booth with a huge gas tank and a spare tyre there would be no space left.

I used to do LPG conversions, as i said they have to be serviced alot more frequently, if they dont then the pressure sensor can go tits up and then your into mega bucks.

Either way you still need petrol to start it, and get the coolant to 60degs.The LPG is a liquid up until -25degs the reason it has a vaporiser is to help it vapourise more efficeintly as if it doesnt vaporise before the injectors it will vapour is in the injector and blow it to pieces.

You can have a tank with out a spare wheel carrier, but you loose boot space. The tanks will only fill to 3/4 as this is a safe limit for the liquid to expand/compress Usual tank sizes for the InBoot tanks are around 50litres. But you then have to have a hole drilled in the bodywork for the filler, as it cant bemore then 50cms long. The company i worked for has the contract for Putting LPG on all the renault vans from new.

Hope this answers a few of your questions!

How much does the extra servicing cost?
The starting isn't a huge problem I do a decient long milage so its not an issue realy.

Servicing is around £60 a time plus parts, everytime its serviced you need new diaphragms anda coolant top up, and will also clear the ecu(for the lpg) of fault codes.

You will also loose about 5mpg aswell on LPG.

How often does it need servicing?
5mpg drop that not to bad I was thinking it would be nearer 10.
