Clio sport 172 ECU question

Hi,

I am wondering if I could possibly get some advice.
I need to replace the ECU on my 2003 Renault Clio 172. Does the keycode run through the ECU on these?
If I get another ECU will it need recoding or is it a simple case of just 'plug & play'?

Used ECU needs to be set in virgin mode and then recoding on your car. RS Tuning can do this afaik. Could be cheaper thean getting a new ECU.

I see so not quite as simple as I had originally hoped for.
