Clio switches off on Idle!!?!?! help!!!

Hello everyone,

Need HELP!! I just got into my Clio (Mk2 1.6Si), and switched the car on. It came on for a second and switched off. I thought that was my mistake, but on switching it on again it kept switching off, infact it will only stay on if i have my foot on the accelerator and keep the revs to at least say 1500rpm.

When I take my foot off it jus falls to 0 rpm straight away!!

It was fine yesterday, literally started happening now. What is this problem? What do I do??

my 1.6 used to cut out sometimes when i would change gear and then refuse to start again

had a major fix at renault where they changed alot of things but didn't know what fixed it:S

Engine is running normal when I keep my foot on the accelerator

Could be the idle control valve then, probably best to get it on diagnostics, save replacing working items then.

If its the old 8v engine I bet 99% it will be the idle control valve.
