clio Trophy are they that good!!!!!

  NEED V6!
Had a play with a trophy.

I thought these cars were realy good like better than mine and stuff but through the twists and rounderbouts was just the same as mine, and on the staights noticed how much my 200bhp clio took off from what speed mine used to be, but was dissapointed about the trophy as thought he would gain at cornerning but no.

your comments.

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
the package the trophy offers is that bit better but its nothing that a good driver couldn't make up in an other clio.. few people really push there cars on public roads, its silly and results in smashed up cars and a call from the police.. its far cheaper to no bother and take the car to the track, which is also where you will see how the car really performs..

Maybe he just 'races' on a track ;)

I had a 172 for a year, my mate had a 182 that i borrowed when thinking of changing. As soon as i drove the trophy i new it was the car for me.

Now when i drive a normal 182 i really notice the difference.

the only new (shape) clio that impresses me really....i think if i was tempted to be buying a newer shape clio, it would def be a trophy.

They are better than yours through the 'twists and rounderbouts'. The Trophy set-up isn't just about making it faster into and through corners (although it is) it's about making it feel better to drive (which it does).

bloody hell 9 lives, never thought I'd see the day!? what about Cup's Jon?

I never driven a Trophy or Cup, but can there be that much difference? Didn't they lap the same on Top Gear?

Would imagine the Trophy is more of a B road monster though with the suspension, but I'm just guessing...

Thats still possible now, but people would rather get into debt with a new car than buy a older rawer harder model and perfect there driving.

I liked my gt turbo, even rawer as it didnt have power steering lol.

  Trophy 265/500
Next time we'll have to try and get a few more laps in though.

lol.....definately.

Trophy never did the top gear test track.

Clarkson waxed lyrical about the Trophy in every publication he writes for and was a big fan. The Trophy is a bit lighter than cup in unmodded state (esp' unsprung) and a bit better set up. The worse the road, the smaller the Trophy will make the cup in the mirror. The dampers really only show their mettle on crap roads or when pushed hard on the track.

With cars this similar, driver skill is the bigger factor.

Personally, I turned down a cup, but went or the Trophy when it came out, just for the slightly nicer suspension, but mainly, the Recaros. I think the rarest of all Renaultsports is 182 cup with optional Recaros, fine car.

Overall, yes they are. I have turned down very geneous trade in offers vs a few cars while my OH has been shopping around abd we've been test driving: 197, mk V GTI, Focus ST, Cooper S (LOL), RX8 and an S2000 (although admittedly, the latter was tempting, but we need a boot here and there)
