Clio Turbo hits the road at last!

  FRST and 106 GTi

good to hear that nick. Now you need to re-learn how to drive it! too much power on the right foot.

Take care of that special clio, and DONT TRASH IT!

no, thrash it......

BUTRE has load of special cars round him like 5 Turbo 2 maxi, Alpine A110, more GTTs anda nice valver.......and they all collect dust and dont drive, yesterday he was exited that one got turned on!!!

LOL, just kiddng mate.....well, not really...its true! ;)

nick if you wana kum and get this boot its your for a small drink you can play with it and try what ever you like

Welcome to the turbo gang Nick! You will be driving round with a permanent grin on your face & an empty wallet now! I still cant resist making the dump valve ptish and Ive had mine on for a while! Now Ive put a K&N on its even louder & sets alarms off (and the exhaust probably has something to do with this!) Perhaps we wil meet up one day & I can have a little peek at the project ;)

  Willy2

I reckon Nick will take the car to the shops down the road and drive it at every possible moment he can. My mate just brought a Dimma R5GTT with a group A dump valve, I have driven this car and the WHOOOOP TISH noise of the Dump valve is sweet, you just wanna take it up the Revs and then put your foot on the clutch. IF i had the money..........................

Ahhh, its not technically a valver now Nick, you can now be callin it the turbo!

I wanna know the first time u beat either a cossie, scooby or is EVO pushing it a bit! Sweeeeet. ;)

cant see any clio beating an evos or cossies, as std cars in this form are as rare as rocking horse sh*t,

scoobys though, plenty of not so quick ones and plenty of quick ones,

na hes to busy doint the london circular

i saw it last night needs alittle polishing off as it were but it will be a f**king beast when its been run in

Hey Nick lets do a swap for the afternoon. You can have my Turbo and Ill have your Turbo.

Well Ive been slaving away the last couple of days trying to get it roadworthy. WHile it was at BB it had all the engine work but I was working on the interior and exterior myself, which wasnt finished. So Ive been sorting out getting the bucket seats right, putting in the soundproofing, wiring the new twin headlights so the indicator is in the inner lamps rather than separate. Cleaning up the engine bay, buffing up the chrome and polished alloy, all sorts.

Ive not really driven it at all this weekend! Its just been sat outside my house, although Ive had a lot of callers coming round to have a look...everyone I know round Southends been waiting for it to be back on the road and I got a load of races with Cossies and Scoobys to have once its run in. Ill see how the miles go, but I reckon Ill go up to Donny in a fortnight just to make sure Ive done the mileage before it has its 1200 mile service at BB. Thats when theyll change the fluids and alter the chip to allow full 15psi boost. At the moment its on 10, and Ive been driving so carefully, Ive not seen more than about 7 psi on the clock, and only 90mph top whack on the motorway!

btw, that thing of having the car "idle" at 3000rpm on the garage its really a good policie? I dont think so. The car needs to roll, engine must feel the load of being pulling the car, not just "idle" it at 3000rpm. The thing is it must be done in a gentle manner.

and yup, I respect alot the mechanic of a car, thats why (like BenR said, D#$K!!! eheh) I prefer to bow in respect instead of always "pedal throught the metal" till it wrecks.

R5 Turbo2 Maxi its a luxury that not many ppl have. At least I can see one any time. :) droollllllllll and heart stoped when saw it runing. Im In Love!

Well my running in has to be proper running in, everyday driving in other words, but not caning it. Not just because of the engine but also the kevlar clutch with a refaced flywheel plus its even got a brand new set of big brakes. So theres plenty of reasons to just drive it around normally and put genuine miles on it.

Been calculating that to get it ready for the trip to Europe, Im gonna have to do 50 miles a day for the next couple of weeks and include the trip up North as well!

  FOR SALE - Mk1 V6

you can do that and if you need help ill be willing to come up and take it on a couple hundred mile trek.

Nick, you can drive it down to show me, thatll put an extra few miles on it for you - Ill even pay the toll for you;) plus there are plenty of speed cameras here, so you wont be tempted to thrash it too soon:D

Dont forget to post when u race these Cossie & Scooby 4x4 turbos. Hope its then when youll realise that its all worth it. ;)

Plus i dont think that all these Scoobies and EVOs we see are much quicker than standard performance stats. Cossies are the tunable beasts which Nick will find harder to scalp IMO.

  Willy2

true mikey, someone mentioned this before-that finding a standard cossie or Evo will be rare, but have faith, Im sure Nick will have fun finding out! And the clio will be crowned the most tunable hot hatch(i wish). But im sure Nick WILL get the respect of other turbo owners.

Most Escort Cossies have been tuned to 300bhp so if Nick was ever to beat one ud have to lay out the red carpet next time he strolls into his school.

Am i right thinking ur a teacher Nick?

Ull have a few Scoobies i bet! ;) I can shock them (not beat them) in first from rolling starts but the test will be to 100mph Nick.

To be honest, regardless of what it is, Scooby, Evo, Cossie, whatever, it will need to be packing more than 250bhp per ton (my lightened Clio =950kg max, power =240bhp) to do me in any acceleration test apart from 0-60, where I will have a natural FWD disadvantage. Once rolling my car is lighter and has less transmission loss, so it cant be beat.

A few quick sums for you...ok there are a few silly powered Evos and Scoobs out there, but lets be honest, there arent many 300+ Scoobs or Evos really, and most of them are what, 1250-1300kg absolute minimum? So to be generous, 300bhp / 1.25 tonnes = 240 bhp/ton. Ooops bye bye Scooby/Evo...I dont think you could even say top speed would be an issue either. OK with more outright power, say 300 brake, you could achieve a higher top speed theoretically, but in practice these Japanese rally machines are short geared sprinters, and they top out around 150 mph AFAIK. So again, not a real problem on top speed either.

Much more likely to encounter a tuned up Cossie, but then theres the weight advantage again unless its seriously stripped out. That transmission is always going to be heavy.

BTW Scooby Doo, I might come down and pay you a visit soon, havent seen you for a while mate, and I think I might be off to Kent in the next couple of weeks...

The 4wd advantage wont be too bad at all with a Clio on 17s im sure. If you dont care about ur clutch on a standard 16v then with 17s on and feathering the clutch at 6000rpm will give you an amazing start.

Maybe not as quick as a 4wd but with Nicks putting the same power out at 3000rpm im sure it wont be far off. Anyway, most traffic light races these days start with both drivers rolling off the line so not to look stupid if the other doesnt race. Unless you know the driver that is.

Top speed dont really concern me cause ur not gonna find many wholl race u to 150mph! 1/4 mile times of the Clio Turbos will be interesting.

Ah but you havent come up against a VTS yet ;)

  Willy2

I can see it now, a cocky fresh faced young vts owner thinking he is racing a standard valver and then Bye, bye. he will be eating turbo fumes:D

  BMW 320d Sport

LOL yes I am looking forward to racing those VTS etc in the Vauxhall Conference of hot hatches compared to mine. :pIn fact I already had my first few scalps and Im only taking it up to 4500 rpm... MG Metro, economy spec 106, a Ford Ka whose driver was giving it beans off the lights and went on orange, an XR2i. The list goes on and on!

Seriously though, took it out for a drive last night, just down to Basildon and back on the A127 and encountered a new Scooby bowling along as I pulled out of the slip road onto the dual carriageway. I couldnt just let him go, as he seemed to be pressing on, so I gave it some light throttle...only problem was I had to let him off the hook at 90mph cos I cant take the revs any higher in 5th gear!
