Clio V6 Insurance - any ideas?

Got to renew the Clio in a couple of weeks, currently with Sky but lost all faith in them so won't be going back to them. Remember speaking to Greenlight last year and thought I'd go with them as they seem to be loved on here, wasn't really going to bother with other quotes but after what's come back I need to shop a little more I think:

Sky - £435, £350 excess, protected no claims, legal etc.
Greenlight - £469, £300 excess, all of the above I think.
Hastings Direct (via GoCompare) - £380, £250 excess, everything bar protected no claims.

I'm sure last year, albeit I swapped to the Clio part way through, it was way under £400.

I'm 26, 8NCB, no accidents etc, D rated postcode, car is on the drive, 3k miles a year, the car has a stainless back box, otherwise standard.
I want to go with someone good, and also wil probably be swapping the Clio to an M car in 3/4 months so got to plan ahead a little bit for that. I want good service over lowest price but high £400's is just too much.

So, anyone got any recommendations? Definitely not Adrian Flux, and definitely not Sky.

Doesn't sound that bad to me considering the car.

Bare in mind values have gone up, maybe that's seen an increase in theft? Who knows..

Maybe, but I think it's too high.

Speak to Hastings and see what their stance is on shafting you when you switch mid policy?

Thing is, I'd rather go with a known specialist!
It was nice that the guy from Greenlight was genuinely interested in the car and how it drives, which I like!

I don't like playing them off against each other to be honest, rather just find a decent trustworthy one, which I thought I had with Sky!

Just out of curiosity, why 'definately not Adrian Flux' ?

Don't like the way they do business, customer service, attitude and a whole load of horror stories about them on here and the rest of the internet.

Think the quote we gave you was on 5k miles mate, if you are doing less you may find it gets closer to £420 including protected NCB. Personally id be wary of the direct insurers especially if it comes to a claim time they probably dont even know what a V6 looks like  let alone how much they are worth.

Bearing in mind the insurance group and value of the V6 to get it near £400 at 26 in a D postcode is a good deal mate. If you are changing to a BMW in the future then we probably wont be best suited as we dont insure BMW models due to our bad claims experience on them.

Eitherway hope you get it sorted and the V6 is such a nice car:cool:

Kind Regards
Neil

I found the specialists a little useless when I switched to the Golf - maybe the increase in value is what's causing the issues?

When it comes to standard cars without mods you can use the comparrison sites and get rates up with the 1000's of insurers on there.
If the vehicle is modified or a specialist car like the V6 or a Japanese Import thats when specialists like us step in. If you have a standard new car with no mods you wouldnt need to use specialist insurance.

Another vote for brentacre. Gave me the best price with all mods included on 182.

You can do any mods to the car without raising the cost, providing mods don't increase power. Exhausts and induction kits aren't classed as power increasing with them. Stuff like cams and remaps are.
And it doesn't cost an admin fee to add mods each time either, or change address.

Just a quick call.... I've added an induction kit to the car. Ok thanks well add it on. Bye. [emoji5] lovely

We offer this type of policy to. Plus you can add the mods via PM to save calling.

Thanks for the reply Neil, that's why I want to use you guys!
I've done 1600 miles in it since buying, will still be less than 2k by the time a year comes round I would have thought. I'm happy enough to not just go with the cheapest in favour of someone who would be good in the event of an accident, I know you get what you pay for. I just honestly expected it to be cheaper!
Bear in mind I insure a 5.3L XJS agreed value of £25k for about £180…….and that's with no NCB.

Not a definite I will be selling up, but I'm impulsive so the option is always there. What type of stuff are you good on?

Spoke to Flux just for an idea and they came in at £451 with all the trimmings…

Thanks for the suggestions, going to go with Greenlight as Neil managed to knock some off with a lower mileage limit.
Excellent service and seemed great on the phone - hope they don't go the way Sky did!!

Thats great news, we have been trading in performance and modified cars since 1996 mate (i have worked her since i left school all those years ago) so we are not going to change the way our business is run. We pride our selves on customer service.

If you need anything throughout the policy term you can always drop me a PM and i'll take care of it personally.

Kind Regards
Neil
