Clio vs R32

  cock mobile.
It's defo quicker, and a very nice car at that!

It's quite a heavy brut though, so it's a different car to the 182.

  NEED V6!
The thing is my mate has just bought one and he has a race planned with me and he said he will demolish me but his car does'nt even seem fast.

He will beat you quite well i reckon.Off the line and up to 60 you'll be close but then he will pull away easily if your still in a straight line.Handling is down to the driver but the R32 beat the 182 i think when the stig drove it

They are fast mate, no question. But you'll notice the biggest speed difference after 80/100mph compared with the 182. But all things considered (standard) you will be able to keep up with him to a degree, just don't expect to ever overtake him.

Get him on a track though and i think you should see some better results. They don't like high speed cornering.

I dunno them yellow 182's are fast i heard ;)

I had a play with one down the a13 in my mk1 hybrid and did well to around a ton so even if he beats you i shouldnt think it'l be a total pasting.

R32 = Boring cars to drive though, drove one two years ago and i just felt too distant from the road. Its almost too refined for its own good.

Personally i'd chop in for an Exige or a VX220 turbo, or an Integra dc5. Depends what you want from your car though, street racer look/drive or more refined cruiser.

Speak to Ali his dad has an R32 and he has a tuned 172. On a small tight track the 182 might have the edge, on the straights the 3.2 V6 will severely out torque the 2.0 16v easily.

I love the R...Awsum car. Would have it any day over my Clio! Could do with an extra 50Bhp tho.

I had a good blast with one up the steep motorway near me....80 mph the car in front of him moved and he booted it. Was me and my m8 in mine and 2 passengers in the r32...I came past him till I got to *25 when I changed into 5th and he pulled past but not by much. If it was on a flat then I think it would have been closer but his extra power and torque pulled him up the hill where as mine pretty much stopped accelerating in 5th.

The topgear Mk4 R32 time was pretty similar to the Clio. However the Mk5 was much much quicker round the track although it doesn't appear on the website. VW have made some serious improvements it seems. I'm pretty sure either would smoke you good in a straight line.

Are we talking about the Mk4 R32 or MK5?

To 60 there isn't a lot in it, but after that, you would be left...

I think the R32 is too 'bling.' The latest one (is it out yet?) looks fooking terrible. The new GTI is mint though :)

There's always the driver factor too... Bearing in mind the price of the MK5 it will be restricted largely to company car / private lease drivers. Not saying that means they can't drive, but the ones I've seen couldn't drive a greasy stick up a pig's arse (or something) and they were all quite old too!!

^^^ I've seen really old guys (with gear hair / beards) driving 172/182's... What is this going to do to our rep!!? ;)

I did have 1 blast with an MK5 R32 on a straight road, i was coming in to the sweet spot in 3rd, i was in the outside lane, Mr R32 was on the inside (slightly in front of me), and he was fast approacing traffic, he must of dropped a cog, because he flew into my lane and shot off. The grunt was far to much for my 182, he pulled a comfortable distance, then eased off. I was surprised how quickly it picked up!! When i went passed i noticed he looked like a drug dealer, so i didn't wait around, putting my thumb up or giving him the nod!!!!

Going of Letstorque site up to 100 at least a very slightly tuned dect 172/182 should be right with even the new shape. Maybe the new one has a better chasis or gearing as the power to weight is near as makes no difference. Going off these vids my cup with slight mods would be quicker for sure.

I know you can`t go of speedo all the time but I reckon mine is (indicated )

0-60 mid-high 5`s. Again setting the timer off when you hear the revs drop (and bog down lol)

60-100 mid 8`s. (moving bar across so speedo is on 60 then pressing timer and play together)

0-100... I know it can`t be just a matter of adding the 2 together as that would be in the 13`s which I can`t see but certainly quicker than the 16.63 of the new R32....

I'm sure you are a good driver but what makes the average 182 driver any better?

Aren't we just tighter?

Nothing makes a 182 driver better in general. What I'm getting at is that the RS Clio is more of an enthusiasts car i.e. bought by people who appreciate how it drives and like to drive it 'enthusiastically', whereas my stereotypical company R32 driver (like the ones I've seen) just get them because they can!

For the record I think R32s are superb and I haven't got one because I just can't afford one. Although if I had that sort of money to spend I might look at other options too.

R32 are very nice cars, whether it be MK4 or Mk5. There shouldnt be alot in it in terms of performance as power to weight ratio are very similar. Obvioulsy the R32 will muller the 172/182 90/100+

  53 Clio's & counting
i work for vw so iv sampled both the mk4 and mk5 r32's and the mk5 is aloty faster, out on the road its a different ball game, throttle responce is amazing and with the dsg box its stupidly quick at changing

comparing the 182 to one is difficult, but against a mk4 i think up to anout a ton there wouldnt be much in it,then the golf would pull off,a mk 5 r32 would be faster thoughout all speed ranges, they really are nice, now its a different story if we started talking tuned clio's,i beat a mk4 r32 when i had my hybrid for example, but then the golf could carry on to 150 without breaking a sweat lol

Hey peep's

As to which is faster my best mate has a phase 1 r32 me a cup and tuther mate civic type r to 60 theres not much in it to 90 im still with the civic r is pulling a tad 100+ the r is pulling considerably there or there about with the type r, u have to remember the r32 is good for 155, he biggest advantage over me is braking he can break a lot later than me, there ive added my tuppence worth...happy motoring

The thing is as with the S3 thread earlier you have to remember that the R32 when new was twice nearly twice as much as the 172/182. Bearing that in mind its a massive acheivement that the Renaultsport Clios can get anywhere near the R32, never mind giving it a run for its money.

You look at cars twice the price of the R32, take a M3 for example and thats miles quicker
