Clio182 noise on full lock

Clio 182 FF + cup stuff

Hey everyone, am new to the forum!

Picked up my 182 on thursday and have not stopped smiling since and love listening to the sound of it, tis awesome. Very please with leics dealer and the car. :D

Only concern is that when the steering is on full lock and you back off on the throttle or accelerate, ie when the parts are under load, i can here a clonk/knock from what sounds like the front of the car??:(

I can only think (hope) that it is the exhaust moving a bit too much. I get no felling through the steering wheel or pedals when it does this!? I have the cup suspension pack if it helps any? Having owned a 99 clio 16v before and not had this prob can only assume it shouldnt be doing it. Can throw it into corners at speed ,and it just grips:), but doesnt make this noise.

Wondering if any other owners have notice similar problem or noise?

Apart form that i am very pleased with my purchase! Just waiting till i hit 700(ish) miles!! only done 240 at the mo.

Oh, also i can hear a slight squeeky noise (v similar to when brakes get too dusty and squeek) at around 30-40. I guess this is down to the new brakes.?

Any ideas would be great.

Jimi

Clunking could be a suspention mount problem.

The 172 has a known problem with this. Not enough space between the top mount and the chassie

Just how often do you have the steering on full lock? I dont know why people even complain about this. I dont think Ive ever had to apply full lock on my Cup so I dont even know if I have this problem.

I see what you mean about the fact that someone would hardly ever use full lock so its not really a problem. If its the case of they all do that then ill just have to put up with it. Just wanted to make sure its not specific to my car and needs fixing.

I mean i dont even feel it through the steering and everything else is fine, you just kinda dont expect these problems with a new car especially as its in 3rd generation now, youd (me) would expect renault to have changed something.

Gonna nip into the dealer on the way home from work tommoz so ill a) let you know what they say in case anyone else has this prob, and b) if leics dealer is any good for aftersales.

When do i use full lock! all the time when parking etc... its needed because i have seen busses with a tighter turning circle than my 182. mines booked in for exactly this problem next week,

Cheers for the replies fellas, have been looking into it alot on the net and this forum and it seems as tho its something a lot of 172/CUP/182s do and, apparently, it doesnt harm anything. Still going to get it looked at to put my mind at ease. Will post anything brought up by the dealer.

As ive said and a lot of people on this forum and others its not a huge prob and besides this ive had no problems what so ever. No rattles or anything. So dont let it worry you if your picking one up soon, its a fantastic car and you will love it and this noise seems to be a characteristic (for lack of a better word) of the car.

Went into renault today and when for a drive with a tech bloke. He said he hadnt heard the noise before but also stated the because you have to really stress the car so much to make it do it, ie full lock and blipping the throttle quite hard really, they are unlikely to be able to find any problem if one is even there as they cant simulate it in the garage. He also had a look around the engine and exhaust and noticed that the exhaust is v close to heat shield as it joins to the manifold and thinks it might be knocking against it. He seems to think that the wheels being at such an angle and with the engine moving as the throttle is blipped then it makes the exaust move in such a way as to catch this heat shield.

????

Could be right but he said it is deffo nothing to worry about. So unless it gets worse i aint really bothered as to be honest i tend to drive forwards 99.9% of the time, not going round on full lock blipping the throttle.

Thanks for your replies, hope this might help anyone.
