Clutch Quote.......16v

Can anyone help me out.....I have a 1993 Clio 16v (ABS model), my clutch died on me this morning and my garage have informed me it could be as must as 16 hours labour to repair as they have to remove the ABS unit before the gearbox and this can take time. Im still waiting for them to call me with the final figure but wondered if anybody could give me a rough idea of the cost, does 16 hours labour seem reasonable?

I usually quote £500 for the complete job including parts. 16 hours is a bit OTT, takes about 10 max, depending on which way you do it.

I changed my flywheel in 7 hours. But I already had the car jacked up, the bonnet and wheels off. So 10 hours sound correct. I took the complete engine/box out (uppwards)

i doid my own clutch with some supervision in my local gatage, took me aboth 10 hours and i am a monkey! so their 16 hours is pure chat i think pmitchells 10 hours 500 quid is more realistic, they are a total pig, so i guess they are charging for being a nasty job to do!

My mate can change them without having to remove the engine (drops the sub frame apparentlly) £150 labour (he can supply the clutch or you can)

He use to work for a Clio Cup race team (back in the days when they use to race valvers)

yeh if u drop the subfame u can get the box out that way

doesnt take that long to take the engine out tho

dropping the subframe will require re-tracking.

300 is all i would pay anybody to do it conventionally, or save 250 and do it yourself.

some G/B specialists around the corner from me will do it for about £275 all in inc vat, they do it the subframe way, if you want details let me know they are based in Harrow middx.
