I'd just like to say aswell, mechanic has been very good to be fair to him - yes it's gone a bit pear shaped after having the clutch fitted but he's trying everything to get it sorted for us so it is what it is.

The key guy he got knows his stuff including Renaults and he's confident it will be sorted but can't say for 100% like anything in life I suppose although the mechanic has said he'll pay for the work if it don't sort it so he's been good about everything really.

It's a shame but these things can happen.

Thanks for all the helpful posts.

Update.

Ecu isn't going to be messed with at this stage! We've had second thoughts after taking advice on here and after the mechanic speaking to someone who knows about 172/182's!!

He explained that all wiring has been looked at etc and that the uch is saying tje immobiliser is armed or something along them line Ecu is ok from what I'm gathering too, seems to be a communication error between them, renault guy is gonna talk him through the procedure to re establish comms or something.

It only shows on live data I think he mentioned.

The mechanic lurks on here so be gentle and if you see this, Hi Pal from me! 😬

Cheers for the advice lads.

Update as promised for anyone who cares!!

Drum roll please....The car now starts! Praise the lord!!(y)

Mechanic has been top notch really, really good guy yes it's took some sorting with no idea what caused it but after a few calls from the mechanic to various people in the trade he managed to track down a Renault guy with a Clip!

It took him quite a long time to gwy it started even using clip but that did start it up.

He first off wiped or reprogrammed (not sure exactly) the uch which did nothing so he then decided to do the same to the ecu and bingo that done it.

So so happy, mechanic was a really good lad who spent alot of time on it and did all what he could to sort it, worked on it day and night to try and sort it himself.

On the negative side, the spare key does not operate the central locking when pressing the fob, it does start the car fine though, yet to try a new fob battery which I will.

The other key is fine, works the central locking and starts the car no problem.

Slightly annoying that the spare no longer locks the car remotely but over the moon it now runs👍

Glad you got it sorted.

Your key might just need reprogramming.

I had to get both my keys reprogrammed on my old Cup as they failed for some reason in Belgium on the way home from the ring.

Cheers mate, I was well chuft when I got that phonw call believe me! infact I think the mechanic was more happy than me haha!

The key is a strange one, it works bar remotely locking/unlocking the car.

Have a look at this for your key.

Or this

CLIO II, KANGOO & MASTER RF RESYNCHRONISING
1. Turn Ignition OFF.
2. Press the central door locking button for more than 5 seconds.
· Note : the door should lock then unlock.
3. When this happens, 10 seconds is allowed and the immobiliser warning light illuminates.
4. Press the remote control once, the doors should lock and unlock.
5. Repeat for second remote if required.
6. Check that the remote control unlocks and locks the doors.

No luck sadly, this part doesn't seem to happen for me.

It seems it doesn't work on 182's either as this fella said too - same issue

Hi,
Sync on Clio Mk2 Ph2 not work.
At step2 doors not locking-unlocking.
Any step to do before, like door must be open or key must be taken out from ignition?
Thx

I'd have thought it would be straightforward seeing as the key actually does start the car and its the original key that used to work - other key works everything fine.

Yeah was worth a try, will require a pro to look at it I presume.
Looks like it but itvwas worth a go.

Its annoying though as the fella just sorted the main starting issue out with a clip but he only had the one key with him and me thinking it wouldn't be an issue.

Glad you got the car running again (y)

Earlier this year, I dropped my key onto a hard floor and it stopped unlocking the door/tailgate remotely, despite reseating the battery, checking for broken parts inside the fob etc. It had a new battery, so I knew that was not the issue. Used the same key to start the engine, which it did with no problems and then the remote locking/unlocking started working again. Coincidence ?
