Clutches - Whats good - and other things

i think it would be a good idea to wack a new williams clutuch in when the willy engine and box go in, so far i have had a price of £55+VAT for a LUK clutch, i was pleased with this as i paid that for my last 16v one (unless they are actually the same)

any suggestions welcomed

Also what else should i change when putting the new engine in? im going to do all the engine mounts including an uprated dog bone,

any other ideas?

I would of gone for a more uprated clutch like a cerametallic one, as I have one in my willy and it is tons better than the OE one.

Just change the usual stuff like fluids, plugs, belts etc... Unless you wanna give it some mods before it goes back in.

where did you get your uprated clutch from? and how much was it?

gearbox mounts were incorperated i thought with the engine mounts?

the starter and alternator will stay though, they are pricey and still work, and not impossible to do with the engine in the car, im trying to do what i can now with the engine out

the whole lot was around £250 that included the cover plate assembly, you can get all sorts of makes, from AP carbon ones to Helix ones. Best bet is to get a copy of the Demon Tweeks Motorsport book or flick through the back of the Motoring News paper.

Dont cerametallic clutches wear out a lot quicker than organic ones? And doesnt it make it snatchy?

Cheers, Simon

Its not exactly the best traffic jam solution, but it certainly handles all the power better. No more slipping when you are giving it plenty!!

Its very unforgiving, either on or off!! But you get used to it.

if you want a slightly uprated item, use the OE or similar friction plate and a stiffer Diaphram......higher compling pressure.

Just get a standard Willy clutch (from Renault) - works a lot better than a standard 16v one or an uprated Black Diamond one.

Nick im getting mine fromma clutch specialist that is used by the trade, the brand of the clutch is LUK, im sure the same product from renault would be over £100, do you mind me askign what you paid for yours?

A bit less than a hundred - special discount. The genuine Renault clutches are Valeo. I suppose as long as the LUK is the same friction material and thickness and the springs and cover plate are the same then get LUK. The way I look at it is that it is such a b*****d job to do a clutch change that for the sake of a few quid its worth putting in the best. Up to you though. I did think about going hardcore with a paddle clutch or something, but in the end decided it was overkill and I drive in heavy traffic during the week. Plus even a racing clutch will die if you keep doing standing starts off it...

i will get a price for a veleo form GSF, its not majior hassel fitting at the moment because the engine is out,

those "group n " clutches are from what ive been told are actually volvo 440 turbo clutches. same engine as the f series, but can withstand big torque outputs. gt turbo uprated clutches from andyspares are valeo made, and r 56quid. thats what im getting for my 19 16v! mmmmmmmmmmmmm:D
