Coil Pack - Warranty??

  DC5
The gf broke down on Friday, with a warning light flashing on the dash (toxic fume monitor light). The AA came out and said it was one of the coil packs and replaced it. All good there.

But a mechanic friend has told her that once one goes, they all start to go. Is this true? And if so will Renault change them under warranty? Don't particulary like the thought of her breaking down again in the middle of no where.

er, i thought there wa only 1 coil pack which sits at the back of the plenham housing held by 4 bolts ? 4 ht leads feed to the plugs from that ??

or maybe i cooking the wrong kettle of fish....

You could be right, I know nothing bout the mechanical side of things. It could be a case of chinese whispers as to what the actual problem is.

However, I believe there are four of what ever the issue was, and was coil realted. So may be it could be the ht leads?

Nope, with the 2.0 theres only one coil pack with leads to each pot. Its only the 1.4/1.6 in the Clio that uses individual pencil coils.

one coil went on the wifes 1.4 meg coupe. two years later, there were still no problems. They go when they're broke, not all together.

Oh right, yeah it'll have individual coil packs then. Doesn't necessarily mean they'll all start to go.

Well she booked the car in to Renault. They had a look at it and said that it was fine, and non of the other coil packs would go.

Driving home tonight, what should happen. She is going to be on 1st name terms with the AA patrol at this rate.
