Clio 182 cup
Looking for a complete coilover/suspension setup for a 182 clio 2005. What would you suggest is the best and best value for racing??
£3500 for Ast's??? Yeah if you are going for the 3 way adjustable setup, but more like £1400 for the sportline 2's or 5200's as they're now know as. That's what a lot of the mk2 Clio guys in tric trophy run. What do people recommend for a full on race car for the Tricolore Trophy? I can see you can spend £3500 for a set of AST but will I go much faster with these compared to a set of BC's for instance? What is a good compromise?
God knows then mate. Mine are definitely 5200's and they weren't £3500. The 5100's will be more than up to the job for racing anyway tbh. @Tony Hunter runs these iirc.I used that price as the most extreme price I could find. I was guessing not every car on the grid would have that sort of money in their suspension. Were you referring to the 5100's? I thought the 5200's are the ones I was referring to at £3468 for two way adjustable. 5100's £1650
I was hoping that would be the top of the range that people would use and the majority would be on something a little cheaper like the AVO for £1000 or BC for £700.
I'd say 450+ up front tbh mate as mine is on 450's at the front and they're still a tad soft on my Ast's. That equates to a 80n spring and I'm planning on going up to a 90n up front and possibly dropping to a 400lb rear, so a 70n rear.I run the bc's, well only fairly recently fitted some but only done one trackday so far.
Impressed with the overall build quality and fitment but have already found them (track spec springs) too soft in my opinion, with my setup anyway and trackday tyres. Front end more so than the rear, wheels tuck so far up inside the arch under heavy cornering they were touching the metal of the arch not just the liner!
I'd still recommend them but I'd say to anyone else buying them for track work to spec a custom set with much stiffer spring rates (400 ish as a good start point).
Your right! They are that much! And I was wrong! Mine are only the 5100's, so aka sportline 2's. The sportline 1's are 4100's from what I can see.I used that price as the most extreme price I could find. I was guessing not every car on the grid would have that sort of money in their suspension. Yeah you may find that they need revalving if you go much over 10% of what they're specced for mate. I've no experience of bc's though, so it wouldn't be fair for me to say/pass comment.400/450 wouldn't be a bad starting point I thought, I know mine are way too soft for the car so I may try some heavier springs but can't go excessive or will need revalving?
Do you race yours?
A mate has some gaz golds on the way with 650/450 springs so I'm interested to see how well they work. He was asvised to go for 800 up front by a guy who runs in the Ktec cup but that seems excessive to me?
I kind of wish I'd gone for the AST's but was only meant to be a cheapish track car (never happens like that does it and I've already started getting carried away)!
I might have to look into sending my bc's back for updating for 450+ springs over winter perhaps!

Are they definitely 5200's though? Lol!Rest assured, I certainly didn't pay £3.5k for my 5200s, although that is the list price. Steamy windows!
Are they definitely 5200's though? Lol!
So you've got the adjustable canisters as well then!Yep.
My supplier did me a rather large favour
Yeah I bet they're 5100's like mine mate. They can be upgraded to the 5200 spec though for the same price as they cost just for the 5100's. Lol!Mmm. That's interesting. They do look like 5100s, yet my invoice says 5200. For the price I paid they must be 5100. Either way, they were a step up from the Billies.

No mate I don't race mine. It's not something I've ever considered tbh as I've not got the right temperament for it. Lol!
Without trying to sound like I'm trying to sell you something, but you'll find that you'll need some significantly heavier springs to overcome the fact that the roll centres on your front suspension are compromised. They were compromised as soon as you lowered it. The end result is that your suspension is working harder to control the car basically.
800 sounds a bit on the stiff side to me, but I'm pretty sure the cup racers used to run in the region of 1000lb fronts! They were on slicks though.
The good thing I've read about the bc's is that it doesn't cost a fortune to get them revalved/serviced etc, and the other bonus is if you deal with @MicKPM you'll get first rate service. No bullshit, just honesty.
Ha ha! Yeah mine was supposed to just run a standard engine and nothing fancy............well that's that out the window then! Lol
Have a look in this thread mate. You are correct, I do the roll centre hubs. http://www.cliosport.net/threads/roll-centre-bump-steer-corrector-hubs.717989/Haha aways goes like that when it comes to cars and modifying them....massively addictive, I can't help myself either!!
I like the sound of the roll centre correction kits, am I right in thinking you do/well them? I get how they work and can see exactly how they would be beneficial in negating the need for excessively hard springs just to overcome the body roll issue once lowered.....could you let me know a few more details of the kit and a.) how much the kit is and b.) whether it's just a matter of bolting onto my existing hubs?
Cheers
To summarise though @DCELEC 182 the price is £650 for your hubs to be modified and this includes all the machined items being zinc plated.
You then just bolt them back on to your car, set the geo accordingly and go out and enjoy a truly different Clio experience.
Front end more so than the rear, wheels tuck so far up inside the arch under heavy cornering they were touching the metal of the arch not just the liner!
Limited slip differentials are not permitted(750 club/K-tec 182 series rules)and the Spax is a control shock, with huge 850 lb front spring rate.I have B14's and camber to both front and rear and its enough to hold up and compete with a friend with Spax 750 Cup Racing Coilovers with gripper diff. It does hang in there for the money.
