Coilovers Or Springs

  Black Gold 182
Guys,
I Might seem totally stupid now but could someone please tell me the advantages of fitting coilovers opposed to standard lowering springs? I.E do they have a longer life expectancy? Better handling? Better ride?

Thanks People.....

Hi mate,

Coilovers have a better ride are usually adjustable in the ride height and damping, and are made to last longer. The down side is they are more expensive...

also depends on level of lowering wanted / trackdays etc. as to whats the best setup for you. not to mention budget requirements

like everything you get what you pay for.

if you buy some lowering springs, the ride may be slightly more harsh and will most likely be a bit crashy on bumps. your dampers/shocks wont last very long as theyre not designed for it.
but then its only gonna cost about 150 quid including fitting for springs. cheap way of getting a decent look and losing a bit of bodyroll.
but after a while you may end up getting dampers too when the standard ones go tits up.. then your looking at like 3/400 quid for decent ones on top.

a decent set of coilovers (H&R) are about 7-800 for the units.
more money but youve got the height adjustability, and you will have a much better ride* and will last along time.

*not true all the time - gaz reputation on here is theyre a very harsh ride. allthough they are very cheap. so its all swings and roundabouts.
