cold air intake for MAXOGEN

  Clio 172 Cup

hey

do any of you guys have a cold air feed for your ITG Maxogens?

I was thinking of just getting some simple flexi tube and using that. I wanted to seal it around the end of the induction kit, or get some pipe that neatly/tighlty slots into the part that sticks out from the main carbon kit.

Whatd do you thinks best?

does anyone have a cold air feed on theirs?? At the moment ive left half of the orignal renault cold air feed and just left it sitting loosely in the nozzle of the induction kit. I was planning on getting a proper cold air feed (routed from behind the wheel arch liner) sorted out.

How does it feels??? I fitted mine last weekend as well. I think it is not as good as I thought. Maybe I need an exhaust system. I only have decat now.

well i did this - i got the ITG maxogen, a janspeed decat and a magnex system and it doesnt feel too different. It actually feels extremeley sluggish around the 3000k revs mark.

Yes, it is a bit sluggish on or before 3k revs which I dont like cos I like better low torque. But once it is over 3k, it is coming and coming. And it is a bit loud. will test more first cos it is very hot recently and I am thinking of getting a Mocal oil cooler too. We need it in my area, humid and hot.

Ive kinda got a cold air feed for mine, but its not going to make a massive difference, I wouldnt seal one to the inlet of the IK either, that might be asking for trouble.

Mine is sluggish below 3k, above it, well I dont know if its the noise or if it actually is a good induction kit, revs a bit more freely, or is that my de-cat pipe? Hell Im getting rid of it soon anyway I need the dosh.

Someone has a feed from a fog light but not sure how u do it or which kit theyre using?!

how much am i looking at for a remap? i thought they dont do RSport remaps anymore?

Where can i get one done?

i think i spoke to BenR about it, not sure though - can anyone remind me :)

I actually think original Renault air box with aftermarket panel filter is good enough cos we already have 2 air induct pipe that goes to the box. It is good enough for normal road use. But if you are alway the Track Day user, then go for the Viper or ITG.

I agree "Mine is sluggish below 3k, above it, well I dont know if its the noise or if it actually is a good induction kit".

hey Gary G:

I like the way your car sits, what springs do you have mate?

How much lower than standard are they?

I would get the BB tuning ecu, everyone has said it works a treat.

Any sluggish areas of the rev range could well be caused by bad air/fuel mix. I had flat spots after the maxogen but they were mapped out by Andy @ GDI using the SMT6 box.

Well worth doing.

rmccardal - good speech, get hold of an SMT6 and get AndyGDI to map it out, runs so much better....

Yup these boys speak the truth :D

Portal, the pic is quite old...the springs i had fitted then were 40mm Apex springs, i loved them :) On GAZ coilovers now.

I fitted mine along with the Ktec sealth ss exhaust and janspeed de-cat, It made a load of difference, the car picked up much quicker, revs freeer and top end after 4000k is awesome plus it sounds a lot like the cup racers:)
I do want some sort of ecu re-map but not sure which one to go for. All I need it to do is bring all the mods together in sweet harmony!!
Heres a couple of pics of my ITG Maxogen intake.
I made the lower intake trumpet from cutting 4" black plastic tubing at a angle theni used a Jubile clip to attach it to the tube, then ran the aluminium tubing up behind the horn/light onto the inlet trumpet on the Maxoegen with a jubilee clip. Totally sealed unit. After a quick blast down the B656 I opened up the bonnet and felt the alu-tubing and It was cold all the way to the inlet trumpet, Heres a quick tip: Behind the headlight is a black box, that sticks out in the path of the intake. Remove this a tie the wires up its the motor that makes the headlights go up and down. Cut a hole in the black round rubber disc that covers the rear of the headlight Put a screw and nut in there (about 2" long) then put the rubber disc back on, This will keep the headlight pointing up!

Yeah. First I tried the ducting for tumble driers, But the maxogen sucked so hard at around 5000k it sucked the walls in on the tube strangling the performance, So I needed something stronger, I was worried that as Its aluminium It would get hot from the engine but It is out of the way, And stays cold from the cold air entering it!!!

a ram air scoop is a scoop to force air in attached to some ducting which attaches to the maxogen producing a good cold feed. the scoop is usually a fair bit bigger than the ducting i.e forcing the air=ram

GRP

...(Glassfibre Reinforced Polymers) are also referred to as Fibreglass, Composite Plastics and in the USA, FRP. It is an amazingly versatile material which has great potential across a wide variety of applications.

Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites were first developed during the 1940s, for military and aerospace applications but considerable advances have been made since then in the use of this material

Its vast range of properties can be confusing to the uninitiated. It is a plastic, but it displays few of the disadvantages of conventional thermoplastics in everyday use.

For instance, it will not melt, but will burn in a similar way to wood. However, it can be easily and cost-effectively made fire retardant. It is very strong - seven times the flexural strength of steel - yet very lightweight with the tremendous energy absorption properties which have made it a common material for racing cars and boats. Its finish is achieved in contact with a mould surface and takes on the precise texture of that mould. Anything from the highest showroom gloss to the texture of cast iron, stone, or the finest grained wood.

im interested in what sort of price hes thinking of charging for it, i bought stevieps maxogen today & was thinking of making a cold air feed or ram air scoop for it, so if u can let us all know A.S.A.P. nice 1.

spoke to you earlier mate, ill get back to you on the price for that ducting pipe on monday

so the ram air scoop made from GRP is a fancy bit of cold air feed - one that wont collapse under the engine sucking in the air?? And one that also provides a snug fit for the ITG maxogen? if so i want one!!!!
