Cold weather detailing

Since my summer polish I've picked up a few swirls and tar etc so it needs claying and (all I can be bothered with) SRP by machine.

Will there be any issues if I do it tommorrow in 2-7degree temps in terms of the chemicals im using:

SRP
Jetseal
Dodo Supernatural.

Cheers

I can't see there being any issue's mate, give it a go, what's the worst that can happen. The panels will have some heat in them anyway if you're hitting them with the machine so it should be fine

The products don't work?

Lol.

Dodo SN won't be as easy on and off. It's best to have a cool, clean, dry surface - yours will be very cold and likely to have water on it, as a haze will appear as soon as you dry the car, due to water vapour in the air landing on it and condensing.

All in all, it won't be as effective as if you'd done it in, say, Sept or Oct. But it's your products buddy and some protection is better than nothing.

If we were talking about Menz polishes, it's unlikely they will break down to leave the finish you desire...

Did a full detail (minus paint correction) to the wifes A3 this weekend past. Ended up being over two days as it got dark before I could finish on the Saturday. Biggest problem was cold fingers!!

Today actually worked out ok. The sun was out this morning so despite the air temperature the panels were spot on.
But I guess time will tell..

I've been really slack lately and not been reguarly washing so mine was in a real need of clay and de-tar. did it at lunch time and got as far as finishing with the clay before I put the car cover on and leave it for tomorrow. Was just to cold for the clay, Had 1 peice in my hand to do half a panel and the other peice in my pocket trying to keep it warm, then swap them over every half panel. was a knightmare.

Is there much chance of causing any damage with not so soft clay, I kept the panels well lubricated in the cold weather? Tomorrow I'll finish off with the de-tar and move onto the lime prime so hopefully can get it done in the short period of warmish weather

Just the inability to fold it so it forms a new clean surface.

Also, a trick for next time, Dave, put the piece in a bowl of warm water while you work with the other piece. Keeps it warm/warms it up and makes it pliable.

I'm hoping to do the Williams this weekend - i have just got some fk1000p for winter protection.

I know that once its cleaned though, it'll look horrible by the time i'm done, so disheartening!

thanks for that. I did think about using a warm thermos flask to keep it warm in, but my cup of tea lasted 2mins before that had gone cold. lol

I was out at 7:30 this morning, working on a Clio 200. Never again, it was shockingly cold in the shade.

But don;t use the kettle incase you get any of those little flecks of scaling on from the bottom of the kettle in your clay. Scratchy :)

I did mine this morning before work, started it just after 7am. Was cold, but got it done, could only manage 1 layer of wax though. I kept some clay in warm water, in a watering can, before I needed to use it, so that definitely helped.

I did find that Collinite 476 (used it for the first time today, normally use Natty's Blue) was extremely difficult to buff off by hand, though - I really struggled! Worked out okay in the end though, I've been trying to find time to get my winter detail done!

I did find some marker pen on my bonnet though, someone must've done it at the weekend :( Thank God that I bought some IPA from i4detailing last week, or I'd have to get the Lynx Africa out!

Got a blokes car off here to do on Saturday morning, going to be fun in the cold! Least I've got shelter at home/big enough garage to work in.

well looks like it was all a waste of time! it's been drizzling all morning and I have to use the car this evening so I'm never going to get it finished and sealed
